What does it mean when...

I hear something rubbing on the floor of my truck but when I get out and check it nothing appears wrong, so I get home and jack my truck up thinking it is something with the front driver side tire and I grab the tire and shake it and it feels loose so I take the tire off and put it back on thinking the lug nuts were loose but I can still shake it.

does this sound like the front wheel hub is going out.

How loose is it? It's definitely possible the wheel hub/bearing is bad, but it's a lot more likely it's a ball joint or tie rod end. Usually when the hub is shot, you'll hear a noticeable whine at freeway speeds depending on how much play there is. I'd check the ball joints before anything. 97-2003's are notorious for ball joint issues. My 2001 needed lowers @ 40k...

it sounds more like a grind than a whine and even then if it is ball joints all my suspension minus the shocks is the original and I have somewhere between 250,000 and 300,000 miles so I guess it is about time for a complete overhaul of the suspension but I want to wait till I can get a 6 inch suspension lift and then replace whatever the suspension lift does not cover.
