Help-Steering Wheel Linkage?

Just noticed today my 2001 Expedition has what can best be described as a "rattle" which transmits through the steering column from the wheels, like when they hit bumps or ruts in the snow. This is regardless of AWD 4hi or lo. It feels like it started last night, and got worse today.

It steers fine, tracks straight and has handled the rough stough fine. My big question is it safe to drive-it's my only transportation in this abysmal weather!

Thoughts? Is it OK until I can get it to a stealership next week?
