38's with 8" lift?

A friend of mine and I are argueing if you can run 38's with an 8" lift and have no rubbing or issues. I won't say which person says which because he says everyone would be bias because I'm a member. Let's hear it.

It IS possible to run 38's w/ 8" of lift if you run the proper width tire and, more importantly, the right offset/backspacing on your wheels. I'm getting ready to do just that.........again.

I ran a straight 8" Rize(actually measures 8.5") and some 38x15.5 MT ATZ's on some 20x10 MT's w/ 6" backspacing and even put a 1/2" spacer behind it to make a corrected backspacing of 5.5". NO RUBBING WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!! I did trim the front valance prior too that as well as the back inner part of the front fender wells. That's commonly called 'clearancing' in the truck world. I'm getting ready to run 38x14 Kumho's on my 24x10 Monsters w/ 6.45" bs. I have no doubts they will work with no rubbing.

I'm gonna say no they won't work w/o trimming metal on the bumper and possibly the back of the front fender. I could be wrong though. Might work with minor rubbing but I rally don't think it will with no rubbing. Try it and find out. The worst that can happen is you have to change your rims or tires. If you're set on 38's You're much better off with going with 38x13.5's and bumping to 8.5".

What are the circumstances here? You have a 6" lift bumped to 8" and want to add 38x15.5's to your 20x10 Monsters w/ 4.75" bs?

is this on our body style f150 because the 20x10 monsters for us only come in 5.03 backspacing. it all really depends on the wheel. i have 38x13.5x20 with 4.5 bs on a 9in. lift and i can make it scrub if i hit a turn and a bump very hard.

That's for sure due to your low BS but also due to the fact that your tires are really 14.3" wide instead of the designated 13.5"

After looking at Toyo's website, their 38x15.5x20's actually measure 15.9" wide so I'm going to go ahead and say that they will not work with a set-up of only 8" and wheel with either 4.75" or 5.03" bs. They might work with 9" and the 5.03" bs and some decent trimming though.

oh yeah i know that i can scrub because of the low bs, i was moreless just throwing out my setup as a referance and yeah i agree either way he will scrub bad with a wheel of that bs and that wide of a tire.

The story is I have an 8" cst with 35's on it now for winter. I need new tires for my summer rims and a friend bought a set of 38's that he is not going to use now and wants me to buy them. Turns out he was wrong and they are 13.5 instead of 15.5. I know 37's weren't a problem on my 05, but was wondering if the 38's would be. The 37's rubbed a little in hard turns and bumps.

ok well first off you have 20x10 xd monsters correct? they are 5.03 bs, which helps a little. if i remember correctly the 38in. toyo's are only .5in.s bigger than the 37's so if you only rubbed a little bit with the 37's then i would say you could do the 38's with just a little more rubbing.

I would say buy them and then add a 1" spacer to the front if need be and then a bigger block, AAL, shackles or whatever you need in order to level it out. I'm sure he's giving you a discount......otherwise he's not a friend
