I have a 2008 FX4 Supercab with a Daystar 2" Leveling kit and 305/65/18 BFG AT'S. I have a rattle in the front end, sounds like drivers side. I work at a Ford Dealership, so I had them check it out and they replaced the front LH shock, thinking maybe that was the problem, well it did not change anything. The leveling kit has been on the truck since it was brand new with 3 miles on it. I also had a 2005 with the same exact set-up and it did the same thing. Has anyone else experienced this? It does not get worse, just stays the same. Only hear it on rough roads. They have checked all ball joints, tie rod ends, steering shaft, everything is tight. Any suggestions????

 

It could be your CV joint popping. There could be a small tear in the boot or something and mud or water could get in there and tear all kinds of stuff up. But then again it could be somethin else but that is just somethin to check out.

 

Thanks for the idea, but we have been there already. The front end is tight. I sent an email to Daystar about it. The truck doesnt do it stock, just with the leveling kit on it. I think something is being put in a bind or weird position. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. There are plenty of these trucks out there with leveling kits, I know someone has had to hear this before.

 

Try a different leveling kit. One that splits the lift between a preload in the strut and a spacer on top of the strut.

It means that you'll have to use a spring compressor to put the spacer in the strut, but IMHO it's the proper way to do it.

 

never experienced it and i have a 2.5 inch leveling kit... you might wana check your cv joint..

 

I am starting to think I am going to have to put up with it. It has made the noise since I first put the leveling kit on, and it only had 7 miles on it then. The truck came of the carrier, we checked it in and drove it a few miles, then put the leveling kit on and thats when the noise started. It almost sounds like a sway bar link is broke, but everything is tight when we put it on the lift here at the shop. Oh well, just thought someone else may have experienced the same thing. Thanks for the information!

 

you dont have sway bars your 150 like mine has control arms

I just put on a 2" AS kit. Just drove it to the farm for the first time since I've had the kit on. I for sure hear a rattle in the front end when I go over some bumpy areas with any speed. Don't know what it is though but I know what you are talking about...

 

I've put about 65k miles on my truck with the 2 1/2" Daystar kit and never had a rattle or any other front end problems. Don't know what the problem may be with your's.

 

05 Larry, 2004 New Body F-150 and newer have a stabilizer bar the goes across the front end Ford Part # 6L3Z 5482 A and that bar has links the run vertically down to the lower control arms and the Ford Part # 5L3Z 5K483 DA. Not trying to be smart about it, just thought you might want to know. CUZ- I am glad you hear the rattle also. I was starting to think i was going crazy! I am kinda curious if the steering shaft is in a bind now and maybe making the noise?? It's not effecting the drive of the truck just annoying sound like the ball joints are out of it. PAW PAW, do you travel any rough roads? Anyone who doesnt travel rough roads prolly wont hear it. I live 3 1/2 miles up a dirt road, thats why I hear it so much.

 

Rough road's, lol All the street's in the New Orleans area are rough roads! In fact my truck loves it when I go offroad and get's off these bad roads in South Louisiana. We even have speed bumps on I-10!!

 

PAW PAW: lol sounds like if we combined West Virginia roads and your roads , we would have some great off-roading, lol.

 

Anyway control arms might be rubbing?

could your upper control arms be hitting the coils? i noticed there isn't much room. when the tire drops the control arm could be hitting.
