2002 F150 tie rod ends...

So, I'm on my way to school last Wednesday afternoon for my Italian class when all of the sudden my truck starts sHaKiNg ReAlLy BaD. I'm on a 3 lane road, so I pull into the middle (no shoulder). I crawl underneath and take a look, I don't see anything unusual. So I'm watching traffic drive by watching their tires, road looks OK. So I start up again, going slow it's fine, then BaNg, ShAkIng starts again. Pull over again, crawl under again, I'm thinking tie-rod....Yep, pulled right off the passenger side. I had to wait 1 hour for the tow truck. So the dealer called the next morning, 1 broke, 3 worn tie rod ends, 2 worn lower ball joints, worn upper control arm, broken stabilizer link. So, almost $1900 later......

Does anyone know if there is a TSB or recall on the tie rod ends? The dealer told me they replace a lot of them.

Well, it sure does drive different now. Nice and tight!

$1,900!!!!!!! Ouch! Guess you didn't do the work/parts yourself? That hurts.

No, don't know of any TSB or recall, why? You just said you took it to a dealer for repair...if there was, they should have mentioned it then. Also, you should have investigated that route before shelling out that much money. If you're thinking there's a TSB you could get your money back, I may be wrong but I don't think it works that way if you've already repaired it.

How many miles on the truck? What mods, i.e. big tires?? Very possible it's just due these parts...I've been there. Sucks that one broke and left you stranded though. I just replaced all four tie rod ends, pitman arm, and idler arm and spent $240. Did my upper control arms some time ago. At 107,000 miles, my lower ball joints are still good.

No TSB. They are just all high wear items on our trucks.

My truck has 77K miles on it. I put 285/70/17's on it at 65K. Other than that it's pretty much stock. I really didn't have a choice on where to take it and needed it fixed asap. The place that AAA (Michigan) recommended I didn't know anything about. The service writer at the dealer told me to look into recall's, she said that if there is I would get reimbursed. I figured I'd come here and ask the guys that know. Thanks for the help.

TSB is just a guideline on how to service a particular common concern, not free work

free work only comes with recalls, and service actions (before gov says a company needs a recall for a safety issue)
