Possible to upgrade FX4 2008 to Raptor
Possible to upgrade FX4 2008 to Raptor
Not being the most mechanically inclined, I have a newbie question. I have a 2008 FX4 and want to know if it´s possible to upgrade this truck to a Raptor suspension system? And if so, does anyone know any companies doing just that, converting standard F150´s to Raptors? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The new Raptor 2010 from Ford
I was referring to the offroad suspension system that comes from the factory on the new Raptor 2010 from Ford. I live in Mexico and the roads are hell - a baja type suspension would be ideal down here.
I thought about selling my truck but I would take a huge hit - I got a great deal on my FX4 and the difference is mainly the suspension that I´m interested in. My guess is it will be a lot cheaper to upgrade my truck to that suspension than to buy a new Raptor. Plus, my truck has everything and to get the same options would push the price even higher.

I honestly don't know if it can be done. You'd be better off with aftermarket stuff I would think. There is a member on here that looks like he made his truck into a pre runner. Maybe look for him. I saw him post in the Edlebrock supercharger thread. I think his sig says 16" of travel.
If you want to do it.. Buy a Camburg Suspension kit, Pricey but if you want long-travel type stuff it doesnt get much better

The leaf spring won't fit. The 2009-2010 are 6'' longer then 04-08 if i remember correctly.
x3 on the Camburg suspension kit, but they don't offert long travel for 4x4.
If your truck is 4x4, go with JD Fab.

I stopped by a local dealership here to get a few things for my truck and they have two Raptors so i got a chance to look at them extensively, there are some changes over a stock f-150 but not as many as you might think, (they also had a 2009 Fx4 sitting next to the Raptor) most noticeably is the shocks and coil overs (obviously) but its not like they changed EVERYTHING most everything is cosmetic, flashy exterior and interior, (big fenders, bold front grille) its sits lower than i imagined the 35's don't even look like 35's i have a 6" on my 08 with 35's and it sits way higher than the raptor, i wish i had a tape measure to measure the frame width and axle width as well as the front lower control arms, i did like the lower control arms they are BEEEFFFYYY if they are the same dimensions as mine i would most deff look into buying a set from ford, but my conclusion was i was not impressed its a great looking truck don't get me wrong but if i would have to agree with everyone else invest in a good long travel from jd fab, i would assume it would be alot cheaper than buying all the Raptor suspension components from ford and depending on what coil over you get (i think jd offers King coil overs) it will perform as good or better than a Raptor suspension, but a setup like that can get expensive quick just for the front its around 4500, then springs and shocks for the rear, deavers are like 700 a set, and then rear shocks, something that will keep up with the front figure another 1000, plus wheels and tires another 3k there easy, jd recommends taller fenders in the front if you want 37's cheapest set i have found is 200 plus you have to get them painted to match and added on top off ALL that is labor if you were to have a shop install it all haha, a pro comp or Fabtech lift might be more suitable to your needs and budget, i have a Febtech with the dirtlogics and it was only about 4k for the whole setup and i am very happy with it it does great in the desert and over rough terrain, there are a lot of options, all depends on how deep you want to dig into your pockets
Rize has a version of the raptor truck..Im sure they make a kit or will make a kit...has more travel then the raptor suspension and there truck runs 37's.....i dont know if they make it yet though.
rdnk217 the higher the truck is the worse it does off road. The Shock mounts are higher allowing the truck to sit lower. You might have looked at the truck very closely but not know what youre looking at or what to look for.

The Raptor is by no means long travel. It is a decent setup for moderate desert style off roading, more than a fx4 but far less than a prerunner. It only has around 11-12" of travel, but has a lot of other cool options and a warranty when you beat on it. JD fab supplied Rousch and they teamed up with SVT or something like that when designing it. The Raptor kit is really based on their long travel kit, just tamed down a little. Get the Jd fab long travel kit, king shocks, 35" tires, fiberglass fenders, 4.56 gears if you want something even better than a raptor. Probably talking around $10k
