Anybody install a Mcgaughys 2/4 kit on a 4WD

I've been looking at the 2/4 lowering kit from Mcgaughys and was wondering if anybody had any input on the company and or their products? I went a different route and put the 22" rockstars on but instead of lifting the truck with big tires I went with low pros and want to lower it. The truck looks good as is but I'm lowering it no matter what anybody says.

WOW what a typical response! I enjoy not having to pull myself into a vehicle. I also enjoy not having to lift my daughter above my head to put her in her car seat. Oh and a truck with a good lowering kit will always ride and look better than a big lifted truck with sweet blocks under it!

Let's not make such a big deal out of nothing here guys. Lowering a 4x4 is not that original nor is it retarded. Mine is lowered 2/4 with a Saleen suspension on 24" Monsters. There's another guy on here who has Rockstars on his lowered truck so you're stepping in a little late to the party but.....welcome! My truck has been lifted 10 1/2" on 38x15.5"x20's, leveled on 35x12.5x18's, dropped(obviously) on 33x12x24's and it will soon be lifted 8"+ on 38x14x24's and I've loved it an thought it was beautiful in every stage. It's also been completely functional in all of my daily and nonusual activities. I've never not been able to do what I wanted(other than park in a parking garage or drive through a brushless carwash) because of how my truck is/was set-up. To include lowered and 2'+ of snow. Do what you want with your truck and be happy! F what everyone else thinks!

Point well taken! I’ve seen way to many "why would you lower a 4wd" statements to last me a life time. But back to the question at hand.... Anybody have anything good or bad to say about Mcgaughys 2/4 kit? Also assuming you do coils in the front is it better do 4 inch leafs in the rear or a flip kit with shackles? What rides better?

In order to get 4" of drop in the rear of a 4wd all you have to do is either 2" shackles or leafs and remove the factory 2" block. If you were to do a 4" leaf you would have to leave the block in or you would end up with a 6" rear drop. I believe that almost all if not all drop kit's for these trucks come with new front coils. From what I've heard, shackles don't give you a bad ride but they do alter the driveline angle. That can be corrected with shims. Most lowering leafs are weak from all the stuff I've read but Saleen uses Ford manufactured parts. I have no experience with Mcaughy's stuff so I can speak to their quality or ride.

I’ve heard the 2 inch block removal rode fine without a load but was horrible with any type of towing. I just do light stuff like jet skis and dirt bikes but what if I hook up a trailer with a car? Will the rear sag with a load with either the shackles or the leafs.

The rear will sag under the heavier conditions no matter what brand leaf you use and the shackles route won't keep it from sagging either as the reason the oem block is there in the first place is because the oem leafs sag under weight. They give it a 2" rake to begin with to counter act the sag under load. I will say that my Saleen/Ford leafs have no sagged noticeably yet and I've had 1k+ lbs in the bed of my truck. You're best bet is to get yourself a set of airbags to use when you do tow heavy stuff to keep it level and looking good.

I've read nothing but good reviews on McGaughy kits, but I haven't read on the kit for your truck.

Thanks for the input. So if I bag the rear will I need shackles or leafs or do the bags act as the entire rear lowering kit? Stupid question but I’m not too sure how bags are setup. I hear it's the best ride.

The bags I was talking about are to supplement your suspension set-up. You would still need to do the lowering via the method you choose and then the bags mount in there so that you can inflate them when your truck is under load to lift the tail back up.

You could also go with a bag suspension but that's a little extreme if you ask me.

I looked it up and I think the rear bags would fit me perfect. I plan on the 2/4 kit I was talking about and I think I will throw the bags in the mix now. I've also heard you cant use bags under 32 degrees. Any truth to that?

I have a 2/4 kit on my 04 FX4 right now, it does ride a bit different than my brothers stock 08 FX4. I have the stock wheels and tires for winter right now and I have a set of 20" for the summer. The front tends to bottom out over some bigger bumps.

Is it the McGaughys brand you have? Also did you replace the struts/shocks? Oh, and do you have leafs or shackles and a flip kit? Any info would be great.
