Blocks Vs. AAL

Just a question for everyone out there. I've got a 09 XLT extended cab, and I've pretty much settled on a 2" Autospring leveling kit for the front. From what I've read the 2" nets you almost 3 inches of lift on the front and might even sit a little nose high, I want to keep a little rake so I was looking at either blocks or AAL. Just wondering what the pros and cons are of each? I have the standard 3 spring rear end right now. Cost isnt too much of a factor, it's more about ride quality (I am going to have this truck for a while). Plan on running 33" X 12" tires (305/65/18 All Terrains).

its more about ride. the AAL can sometimes make the ride stiffer but will also allow for more load to be carried. where the block will just lift the current setup up. most places are similarly priced and its a personal opinion thing. im running a 5" block rather then a 3" and 2" AAL due to it being a little bit cheaper but i may add one for some loading ability

I have an '09 4x4 SCrew and just installed a 2.5" AS front spacer with the 3" AS rear block. The 2.5" kit gave me 2.5" of rise in the front and with the 3" block in the rear, the truck sits within .125" of level (rear is just a little high). After seeing the driveline for the front end after the 2.5" front spacer, if I had it to do over again I would have gotten the 2" set up.

I have a 3" block along with a 2" AAL. Maybe it was just bc of my lift but it worked out the best.

I really liked the additional firmness the AAL added. I went with the 2.5" AS level and wish I had done the 2" as well.

As for blocks, the rear blocks on the 09 trucks are only 1-5/8", unlike the 04-08 trucks that come stock with 2". So you do gain much more rear ride height with a block on the 09-10s vs an AAL. You get about 1.5" in the rear with an AAL, but it will settle and lower over time. I have lost about 1/2" on my AAL since it was installed so far.

Hey F_ast,

I just bought a 2009 F150 XLT screw the same color as yours. It came with 17" wheels, and I'm trying to decide which AS leveling kit to go with. I was thinking 2.5", but I see where you said if you had to do it again you'd go with the 2". Will the 2" by itself level my truck? Or will it still have some rake? If I decide to go the 2.5" route, would it be wise to use a block in the rear?

Kevin.

I found the truck sat very nose high with the 2.5. With the 2" kit, your front arm angle are not going to be as bad as with a 2.5 or 3" also. They are not horible with the 2.5, but i think the 2" would just be a better fit on the 09 trucks... but i am speculating that the the height and fit would be better since I have only done a 2.5
