Air bags
Air bags
Okay, so here is the issue. I have an 06 F-150 4x4, but I do quite a bit of hauling both for personal and business use. The shocks seem to be worn out it only has 68,000 miles, however I am curious as to should I buy new shocks or should I buy air bags for the rear and new shocks for the front. My front end sags quite a bit as well, and the current shocks are still stock. I have thought about Rancho shocks, but please give me your advice. Thank you in advance.
One has no bearing on the other...if you need new shocks, you need new shocks regardless of your plans to buy airbags. Airbags are NOT a shock replacement and do not perform the function of a shock absorber. At 68k on the stock shocks, yes, you need new ones. Buy all four corners of what ever flavor you choose not biased on the fact that you will be getting air bags. Then get your air bags and run them at (no more than) 5 psi when not hauling and what ever's required when hauling.
You will also be much happier getting air bags to hadle the extra load when needed as opposed to helper springs or other methods...IMHO.
Sagging in the front is also not due to bad shocks...shocks do not support any weight.
As for shocks for your truck, Bilstein and Rancho are by all accounts the two top rated over-the-counter shocks for your truck. Don't think you could go wrong either way!

I have the Rancho 9000 adjustables on all 4 corners, AS 2.5" levelers, and Ride Rite bags and am very happy with the set up. I have a 2008 Screw with a Leer cap and it rides far better than stock.
