Ball joints and control arms

My 2000 F150 needs front end work. I'm reading the Haynes manual and it says " The balljoint is an integral part of the lower control arm and cannot be replaced separately.
You must replace the entire control arm.
It says the same for the upper ball joints and control arm.
I thought I could just replace the ball joints.
Am I reading all this correctly?

The upper ball joint/a-arm is a one piece assembly.

How about the lower?
I think I've read on this forum that the ball joints are replaceable on the lower.

The lower ball joint can be removed from control arm and replaced. You will have to beat it out to remove it!!!

This is correct I just replaced the lower ball joints on my truck last month, BEWARE it is very hard! you will need a special press to press it back in I dont remember the name of it but we had to borrow it from a buddy of mine who works at the ford shop. Good Luck with it

I think you can get the press from Autozone as well. You didn't say if you had 2 or 4WD?? I know for certain the lower on the 4WD can be replaced separately, but not the 2. Place the ball joint in the freezer overnight and then apply head to the control arm before installaion. Will ease your pain.

I'm sorry, My truck is a 4WD.
I think, (hope) you meant apply heat, not head to the control arm.
