which shocks to buy? suspension advice?

I have a 2002 4x4 Expedition with just over 90,000 miles. Bought it 3 years ago with just over 70,000 miles. (...obviously doesn't get driven much).

After changing my mind about selling it, I've been putting some time into making it better and I'm loving this truck again.

I don't know if it has the original shocks on it...it's rather bouncy so I'm betting it probably does. I was planning on going with Bilsteins but am wondering if there are other choices I should be considering? Ranchos maybe?

I am running 33" tires (Uniroyal 285/75/16) with stock suspension. No plans for lifting. I would like to find some mild trails for some off roading.

Any other suspension upgrades I should be doing?

Also...I'm fair when it comes to DIY work. Replacing Water pump is about the most advanced thing I've done. I don't have a floor jack but do have jack stands. Shock installation looks pretty simple...anything I need to worry about there?

Bilsteins are nice. So are Ranchos, but really any gas shock will perform well for the average driver. Even hydraulic shocks can do the job most of the time, but I would not set the bar any lower than a gas shock. Don't worry so much about brand names, it's a competitive world out there and there are plenty of high-quality products for good prices if you learn what to look for.

I would suggest the Rancho rs9000lx adjustable shocks... They have settings that are adjustable for different conditions such as hauling, towing, and off road situations... You can also opt for the upgrade to adjust the shocks from inside the cab, wireless... Here's mine...

They really made a difference...
