I need some advice on backspacing and offset!
I recently bought an 08' F-150 STX. Im getting a 4" lift on it, which is pretty much straight forward from what I hear! Im probably going to have a shop install it. I have been looking at a lot of different wheels to put on it. Most all sites are explaining that the wheel has (for example) a 12mm offset with a 4.5" backspace. I know what they mean but I dont know how to see what it would look like on my truck. Of course I want them to stick out from the fender well, but not like its a lowered chollo ride. I plan on running 35" tires as well. Now I dont know about the width of the wheel to get either. I know I might sound retarded but any helpful info would be nice!
you need to follow your lift manufacturer's suggestion on the rim backspacing/offset. They are, in reality, the same measurement, just expressed differently. If you plan on running a 35x12.50 tire, it is generally recommended you purchase a rim that is 9-10'' wide. These rules apply whether you are running a 17, 18, or 20 inch rim diameter.
I have a 8" wide wheel with 5.5" of backspacing and run a 35" tire and they stick out 1.25" farther than stock. When I was looking for wheels I just used that handy button to do forum searchs and looked at a ton of trucks just looking to see how peoples wheels fit then just do some searching on there wheels specs to come up with what you want then just find the wheels that are similar.
I didn't pay attention when I bought my wheels which are 4.5/-12mm. If I'm not mistaken stock wheels are 5.5/+25mm at least for my '05. Right now I'm having 33x11.50's put on and will post some pics if you want to check out them out.
