No, the shocks on the 97-03 F-150's do not support the weight of the truck.

So can I put Bilstein 5100's on all four corners of an 03 4x4 Supercrew that I do not want to lift? If I do, am I going to get a stiffer ride (be quiet Beavis) by running on shocks that are compressed 4 inches shorter than they would normally be at rest?

Some of the 5100s are 25% off this month. Let me know if you are interested and I can give you a quote for comparison shopping.

No, there is a lot more to a lift kit than shocks and springs. You can't lift your truck by just adding longer shocks and coilsprings.

i would think that running a shock at a highly compressed state would not only result in a crappy ride but also a shorter life for the shock

you need to get the correct length shock for your application

Correct me if I'm wrong. But don't the 97-03 F150s have torsion bars up front, not coil springs. Cuse if thats the case all you need is some t bar keys and some lift blocks out back. Then add your new shocks and TADA... almost a new truck
