Bumpsteer? Bilsteins?

Posted this in the 04-08 F-150 section, but hoping to maybe get a bigger response posting it here in the correct forum(novel idea i know ). I have an 08' 2WD f-150 with 285/65/18 wheels and 18x9 rims. Added a 2" AS level to the truck about 7 months ago. Ever since, the ride is rougher(which I knew was going to happen) but also has alot more bumpsteer.

Others have recommended the Bilsteins. Specifically THESE .

Everybody agree that those are the best option? Any other options?

Question. Different sites have me confused. So these(the fronts) can adjust from 0" to 2.5" and anywhere in between? 1.5" for instance is what I want. And the backs adjust to 1", however I dont want/need any lift for the rear. Do they make the same ones for the rear that dont adjust? Also, what color are they? Some sites say they are silver with black boot, other sites list them as yellow with blue boot.

Sorry for all the questions.

Only the fronts adjust. The rear is adjusted with blocks or shackles. These are silver, the blue and yellow are a OEM replacement which do not adjust.

There is a lot of detail and good pics in this thread. Please look at my comments three, and if you have any questions left, please ask.

What do I need for my 4x4 to sit like a 2wD?

The ebay listing you posted says rear adjustable 0" to 1".

The Ebay posting is wrong. Only the front coilover shocks have adjustable ride height.

Ok, thanks. Now another question. The other site that I posted in the first post says for the rears, "Only use on trucks with 1-inch of suspension lift." . Does that mean on the rear, or on the truck itself(ala 1.5" front on mine)?

The ebay listing is correct, you just need to know what it means. The rear shock works as a typical shock does, only as a dampener. The shock does not provide any support, and does not contribute to height. This means that if you do raise the rear 1" with a 1" block, then this shock will still work even though the shock will be extended longer. In fact, the shock will work with the Ford 2" block, which is realy 1 5/8".

That means in the rear. They are saying with a 2" suspension lift in the rear you should go with the longer shock. You can do that by simply purchasing the shock for a 04-08 4x4. I would agree that is a good option, in fact, a better choice.

So you're saying 08' 4x4 shocks would be better then the bilsteins for the rear? What about not getting anything at all for the rear? Since its unchanged from stock, and just getting the BE5-C300-H0 for the fronts?

I'm saying that Bilstein 04-08 4x4 will fit your truck. They are a good choice if you want your 4x2 to set at the height of a stock 4x4..

Front Part # BE5-C298-H1
Rear Part # BE5-C299-H0

You can even go with the cheaper non-adjustable OEM 4x4 replacement:

2 FRONT BE5-A934-H0 , 2 REAR BE5-A935-H0

These will raise the front, and you will need to raise the rear to 4x4 height. They are set for one height though.

If you want to save some money, put the less expensive shock in the rear. I think your biggest gain in shocks on a truck is in the rear, not the front.

Oh, I gotcha. Well, I dont want any lift at all. Infact I want to lower the front 1/2 inch with the front adjustable bilsteins(currently have 2" AS now). And want to keep the rear where it is, at stock.

You can use for up to 1" of lift but can use for 0 lift too in the rear. The 5100s are designed for lifted apps but it's not necessary to use them. Also the yellow/blues are for stock height applications, but can be use for up to 2" of lift.

Which is why it's mentioned you can use both.

FYI, C298's are on back order until at least 9/15.
