Add a leaf... wtf...

ok, so from what im hearing, this has been a 'do it yourself' thing... then wtf?

for the record, its a pro comp long leaf kit...

8 hours last night.... the two centering bolts in the middle of the factory leaf set just spun in the hole, finally got that out. then no one says anything about how ridiculous of a task it is to open the alignment clamps. how would you even close that back up with an additional leaf in there anyway?

does anyone have any pictures of their installed AAL kit? any tips and tricks?

im a very avid and capable weekend mechanic, rebuilt heads, lowering kits, pulleys, maintenance, etc... but this has got me scratching my head.

any help please!!!

To bend the clips down you just use a pipe wrench or channel locks and to hit them back up a hand sledge works best. I always just cut the center bolts out with a torch but it's kind of a pain on the F150 because of the cheap u bolt plate on top so a lot of times I'll try to zip them off with a socket and vice grips holding the bolt head. You only need to bend one side of the clips to get the new springs in.

Strange... when I did mine I never bent the spring clips..?! I lubed the AAL with some WD, and slide them in! Took some finese, but was easy enough! Ofcourse there has always been the question in the back of my mind whether or not I even installed them correctly.......

Not sure this post is helpful : (

I do know there is a difference in the springs packs between 2004 and 2006... so the pictures I have of mine wouldn't help your 2004

I'll post them if you want to see them anyway!

Good luck

Cheers

sorry this took so long! I've been away over the weekend!

you'll notice that I've only got a 3 leaf pack OEM 2 + overload ... (4 with AAL) I believe in 2004 you will have a 4 leaf pack OEM 3 + overload (5 with AAL)

Not sure these will, but I hope they help!

Cheers

Well Nem you have the wrong aal. It either needs to be a few inches longer or a few inches shorter. Leaf springs are supposed to be staggered and yours aren't so I'm guessing yours is designed for the 4 leaf system. It would actually work if you cut your clips off and made it the new 3rd leaf but the best bet would be take it out, cut a couple inches off each side and make it your new 3rd leaf and leave the clips alone.

Are you going to sit there and tell me that you wouldnt rather install the lift and find out that your rear end sags... and yoke now leaks because its sticking out half way to france and creep around everywhere you go for the next week and a half checking your tranny fluid levels.... while waiting for an extra couple of pieces of dinky metal to come in the mail for a grand total of 180 dollars??? (leafs and spacer... and shock covers)

Sir you must be in denial because in the end... I have a priceless story!

I have already spoke to pro comp about this! They only make one part number for the 04-08 trucks...13134. Ford decided to make different leaf packs over the years! 2004-2005 have an entire different leaf pack than the 2006 and up! According to procomp I did it the only way possible for my year! I am also aware of how Leaf springs are "suppose" to work...

If anyone has proof in a detailed photo that I did this install incorrectly for my 2006 please post up!
