Question about ball joints.....

How many miles before replacing ball joints?

Are there 2 or 4 Ball Joints?

Can most automotive shops replace Ball Joints?

Can you trust shops like PEP BOYS or SEARS to install Ball Joints?

Is there ANYTHING that should be requested, like type or manufacturer of Ball Joints?

I know nothing about Ball Joints (obviously), so I'm just trying to educate myself about this.

My truck has 98,000 miles and I assume it's time for Ball Joints......
I thought this would be a good time to do this since I'm also installing BILSTEIN 5100's.
Thanks for any help!

There are 4. Mine were replaced under my Extended warrany by Ford at 56,000 miles. Any decent shop should be able to handle the replacement of the ball joints, the shocks and alighn the front end.

I'd recommend MOOG parts. My truck is an 01 F150 with 125k on it and I just replaced upper & lower ball joints and all 4 tie rod ends at the same time. With an alignment and the new shocks I already put on before, it now handles like new. If you go with MOOG, just make sure whoever changes your oil is also greasing them regularly.
