Airbag mount for lifted trucks.....

hi all..... for anyone who has airbags on a lifted truck, you know that you have to make a custom bracket to account for the larger block height.... (unless you have lift springs). well, 06 SANDSTONE did an awesome job at a custom mount using 2"x2" receiver tubing..... as seen in the pic below (sorry for stealing it sandstone, but it helps the thread).

well, here is my issue..... when you have airbags installed, you are limited to the amount of rear axle travel, unless you want to tear the bags. so, using a design like 06 SANDSTONE developed, im wondering if it would work to do the following:
1. start with a piece of 2"x2" receiver tubing, 6" long, and cut out arches to match the axle tube contour.
2. take a piece of 1.5" square tubing, 5" long, and weld a 3/16" steel plate on the top. Then drill a hole in the center of the plate to mount the bag.
2. mount the bag to the 1.5" tubing using the bolt that came with the bag kit.
3. slide the 1.5" tubing into the 2" tubing, and weld the 2" tubing onto the axle tube as seen above.
4. the bag when mounted would look like the mount above, but when the axle articulates, it would allow the bag and 1.5" tubing to slide up out of the 2" tubing. The 1.5" tubing would keep the bag aligned with the 2" tubing, and allow it to seat correctly onto the 2" tubing when brought back towards the axle.
5. whenever you had a load on the bags, the weight would be supported by the 2" tubing.

the down side is that this set up requires some welding to the axle tube, and if you ever had to take it out for any reason, you will need to gring off the welds. i would think that just a few tack welds on each side of the tubing would work just fine.

does this idea make sense or can anyone think of a reason why it wouldnt work?

thanks a bunch in advance, and thanks to 06 SANDSTONE for the original idea.
