Torn CV Boot....... not if, but when.....
I have experienced the same problem. I put a 3" spacer in bout 3 months ago and alredy the second boot on the passengers side is torn. last time i just took it to the mechanic and he said i needed to replace the whole shaft. after reading about other guys having trouble with the 3" space Im going to install a 2.5" and see if that works but not rely willing to pay $200 er $300 (whatever it cost cant remember) to replace the whole shaft. can i with minimal to basic mechanical knowledge and tools replace the boot or shaft? also how important is getting the exact oem torche specs on suspension parts?
Same thing is happening to my truck as we speak. Driver side is pretty much completely torn. Passenger side has a minor tear in it. Grease all over the wheel wells and grease on all the parts around it. So if I don't use 4 wheel drive it wont hurt anything? Am I understanding that correctly? And I was quoted $634 to replace the whole assembly on both sides. Does that sound right? How difficult is it to replace it on your own? I have been around cars my whole life and I am an OK mechanic with a big selection of tools. Any suggestions or write ups? thanks.
