deciding what to get...

Im about to get my first f150 (2008 stx 4x4 or 2008 fx4) and im deciding what specific things to add onto it. I already have a train horn kit and light board for the top but i cant decide what height of lift or wheel size to get. I dont want an insance amount of lift such as 8 or 9 inches. i looked into 6 inch but even that looks a little high. I had in mind 35"s but with a 6 inch lift they look small. I am into offroading so preferably offraoding tires. so i just need some advice on what to get. key points: not too high of lift kit, not too big of tires (have to pay for my own gas with it being 4 bucks a gallon), look even so the truck doesnt soar way above the tires, and tires match size of truck (if you get what i mean). Heres a pic of what im trying to get at. but even in this truck the tires could go up a size or suspension come down a little bit. http://media.photobucket.com/image/l...0/IMG_0817.jpg

thank you!

sounds like you want a 4" kit, 35's look best with a 4" Imho.

only downside is they cost the same as 6"

take a look into Rancho

but i would just go with the 6"

When I completed the install on my 2006 of the Fabtech 6"... I first thought it was huge... just after a few days I'm thinking its perfect!

I had also thought about the 4".. I've heard of many people actually yielding quite a bit more than the advertised 4"!

If your having doubts about the 4", than don't hesitate to get the 6".... you'll regret it if you dont!

and like IDNC76 mentioned... the cost of the Rancho gets pretty close to some of the more preferred lifts!

Best of luck in your decision!

Also... this is just a personal opinion... I'd go with the FX4 over the STX... it has alot more features than the STX!

Cheers

Nem

That picture you posted appears to be an 8" suspension lift and 37" tires. The problem with these, or any other trucks this size, the taller you get the smaller it makes bigger tires look......if that makes any sense to anybody.

I think the look you're are going for could best be had by a 4" lift and 35's or possibly even just a 2.5" leveling kit and 3" block and 35's. The later makes the 35's look almost too big and the 4" makes them look very good. I agree that the 6" makes 35's look small. I have an 8" that makes 38's look small.

Just know that either of the 2 options I listed isn't going to give you're truck a very "lifted" look. You'll be able to tell that it's lifted but it won't seem like much at all.

yea. thats what im thinking about. plus im sure the gas mileage on the 4" is a tiny bit better than the 6" which is a plus. im not going to go extreme offroading like up cliffs and such but just like cruise around on some grass or through the woods you know? so i dont need anything too big. plus it will be mainly a comuter truck. so it needs to be somewhat street friendly. plus im planning on doing this by myself (with the help of acouple of my friends) so i dont have the necesary tools for a bigger lift... (the smaller the easier). but as soon as i do it ill put up some pics. (black truck, blackrims, 35"s, head lamp, and train horn)=sexy

I got the wheels for $140 each from rimzoneonline.com with free shipping then bought 315/70-17 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs I picked those up from tirerack.com for about $215 each there an awesome tire would definitely recommend them.

Sounds to me like youd like Rancho. I love mine. As far as tools, most all of these lifts are going to require about all the same tools unless you have to compress the springs (which you will for the Rancho kit). I did my install and it wasn't that hard.

And like Nemisus said, most people do get atleast 5+ inches out of the rancho kits. I saw a pic of a rancho next to I believe it was a 6 inch pro comp and they looked exactly the same as far as height I thought. I think I got just a bit of 5 inches myself. The biggest downer about it is it's costly compared to a 6" kit.

what about a 6" kit bump it to 7" and run 36's?

i have a 6" and i agree 35's look kinda tiny but my 35's only measure out to be 34 so ill be getting a true 35 next go around if not a 36
