Torsion bars

I know that my 2000 and 2002 Ford F150's have torsion bars instead of springs in the front. Did Ford switch to coil springs in 2004 or later? If so, anybody know why they switched?

the torsion bar front suspension really isnt that great for road use, it normally provides a harsh ride.

The 04+ went to struts (coilovers basically)

Thanks for the information! As long as it wasn't a reliability concern it's okay with me. I don't offroad anyway. The only time I go off pavement is to go out on the beach back home in NC.

The coilover shock design is just a better overal design. It offers better performance on and offroad.

torsion bar IFS is an outdated technology, imo. they've been around since like WWII or before. it was a step forward in the switch to coilover IFS, imo. i am honestly surprised that the new chevy's are still using torsion bars, particularly in their 2500-3500 series...
