Difference between shackle drop and block removal?

I see a lot of post about guys putting 2" lowering shackles on the rear of their trucks to lower/level out the rear end. I removed my 2" rear blocks (its a 4X4) to gain the same effect. Is there really a difference between the two?

I have no idea why you would put a drop shackle on before removing the blocks. Looks as if they would just offset each other. I think you did the right thing by removing the blocks.

Right. Why buy leveling shackles when you can remove the blocks for free? Maybe do both and install some lowering springs up front for a 2/4 drop.

Ok good, thats what I thought. I'm not sure how much a shackle costs but I know it cost me about $20 for shorter U-bolts and about a half hour of my time to lower mine. Maybe its the 2wd guys that are using the shackles because they have smaller rear blocks (1").

It depends on the vehicle. If it comes with a block, you remove the block to level it. But my truck did not have a block therefore I needed a shackle. Just all depends on the vehicle. Some 2WD's have a block, some dont. Different jobs for different applications.

Really the only difference between the two is the lowering shackles lower your towing capacity due to the leaf angle change.
