Wanted: A Softer Ride

I have an 07 XLT 2wd with the towing package which unfortunately came with heavy duty shocks. I think they are full of cement. My truck rides so bad I swear it's going to shake itself to pieces.

Is there any way to soften the ride such as softer shocks or do I have to go as far as changing the coils and leafs?

you can get some edelbrock shocks from auto zone. or you can go with bilstein or rancho. should help a little.

how many miles on the truck? the stock shocks really dont last too long.

Yeah has to be something with the shocks, these trucks usually ride really nicely.

You could take out the extra leafs in the back but it wouldn't even be enough to notice.

heavy duty shocks? never heard of these? you don't want the suspension to be like butter.

It has about 16,500 miles.

I don't know for sure about the shocks. It just listed HD shocks as part of the tow package. Maybe it doesn't mean anything.

The rear shocks should be easy to change but what about the front? Do I have to take the coils out to get them out?

Yes, rears are easy, but the coils have to come out, so the front is a pain. I have the Bilsteins on the rear already, trying to find time and the gumption to do the fronts. Have to rent a spring compressor and get a couple of sockets.

I've been doing some reading of other threads. Seems that changing the shocks won't really do anything for the ride. I haven't found anything yet about softer springs without getting a lift too. I don't want to lift it.

I just changed my rear shocks about ~2 weeks back with monroe reflexes and I will have to say it was like night and day the way the truck rode. I still need to do the front but even with the back done it feels like a completely new truck. My shocks had 55k on them though and they were shot.

the oem tires are POS. you would be surprised how heavily tires affect ride quality. what current PSI are you running in them? you should be running around 30-35psi or so on stock tires.
