Weird Noise

I've got a noise coming from the front driver-side wheel assembly on my 2002 F-150 FX4.

It started when I had a tire in the front that was wearing unevenly. It got worse and I rotated them. The noise subsided considerably, but hasn't disappeared. It is barely noticeable until I hit 70mph, at which point it is very noticeable but not scary. It's a steady hum that sounds like something rubbing. I checked for play in the wheel when I rotated the tires not long ago. Nothing. Everything passes a visual inspection.

I suppose it could be that the tire is slightly out of alignment, though it doesn't pull to one side or the other. I'm wondering if it could be a CV joint, or a wheel bearing problem that isn't causing play in the wheel. Any advice as to what I should be looking for? Thanks.

John

If your tire is wearing unevenly, it is definitely out of alignment. Which could be just out of alignment or caused by something else like bad ball joints, etc.
