fabtech lift question
fabtech lift question
after a lot of researching on this forum (which has a lot of great info.thanks everyone who has contributed) ive decided to go with the 6" fabtech lift. i have a 04 f150 fx4 extended cab. im only looking to run 35s at the moment, i want 37s but not trying to regear right away. anyways my question is, which fabtech kit to get...?? either the basic kit or the one with the optional coilovers in the front. i dont do too too much offroading(i have another toy for that) just the basic drive in a muddy field and have some fun. not sure if towing has anything to do with affecting my decision on what lift to get but i do tow a 23' wakeboarding boat every weekend in the summer which is only about 10 miles to the marina. any input would be highly appreciated. ive searched trying to find an answer for this but couldnt. thanks!!!
If you plan on doing 37's later on I would go with the stage 2. You'll need 8" of lift to clear the 37's and with the coilovers that come w/ the stage 2 you can crank them down to get that 2". Then just add an AAL or bigger block and you've got room for the 37's.
thats makes perfectly good sense. i didnt know u could do that. thanks a lot ive searched this post on the best price for this kit but when i click on the link it doesnt load up. the stage 2 kit is the k2000 right??? best place to buy???
I have no idea about an answer to either of those questions. I have however heard that Fabtech is selling their coilovers seperately for dirt cheap out of the blemished stock. It might be cheaper to buy the stage 1 and then et the blemed coilovers seperately. NTWonline, Topguncustomz, 4wheelparts, Rockymountainsusp, Exaltmotorsports all have good prices for different lifts respectively

That is for the stage 2 with performance shocks...and it's only $60 more for shipping

Even if you're going with 35's you're going to want to regear. Trust me, I ran around with a 6" Fabtech lift and 35's on my truck with the stock 3.55 gears for about 9 months before I couldn't take it any longer and regeared to Yukon 4.56's. One of the best mods I have done to my truck. Made a night and day difference in the truck. Regained all that lost power and there was no more constant gear searching going up hills. Best piece of advice I can give you is save your money and get exactly what you done to your truck the first time, that way you pay one labor charge and aren't constantly having your truck torn apart.
I've run 2 sets of 35's on my truck w/ the stock 3.73's with only a Hypertech tuner. You don't NEED to regear if you have 3.73's.......which chances are you have because it's an FX4.
Not everybody has 3.55's man....
Even if you do have 3.55's.....it's not a must

Keep in mind I'm in a 2WD so your cost will be double what mine was, but I paid $788 with labor (prices are higher out here in Hawaii though). When I had the truck back in Mississippi (before regearing) I was getting 13-14 mpg's, but out here in Hawaii (after regearing & 99.9% stop-n-go traffic) I am getting 11-12 mpg's. They are definitely worth the cost though.
Where in my post did I say that he NEEDED to regear or did I say he had 3.55 gears? I didn't because everyone is different. You obviously think it's fine riding around on 35's with your stock 3.73 gears. That's great. I was giving my opinion only and why I thought that he would WANT to regear.
Trust me, coming from someone who ran the stock gears for 9 months and then regeared it makes a huge difference in the performance of your truck. I even had an Xcal II with Troyer custom tunes (still do) and the truck still was underpowered and was constantly gear searching going up hills. That's what happens when you lift and truck and throw 35's on there.
Bottom line is it's your truck and your choice.
easy dude.... I didn't say y said anything about him needing to regear. You didn't say anything other than 3.55's and it did sound like you were insinuating that he had them. My bad man. No reason to get upset.
ill look and see if i have 3:73s tomorrow which i probably have. i figured i didnt necessarily have to re gear but i do agree it would help. so ill probably run without regearing right away. tlt do u have the same lift or any at all?? just curious on your mpgs.. i wasnt trying to start an argument. sorry about that
