broken shock

hey guys, i broke a front shock yesterday and i'm looking for some info on replacement. I have a FABtech 6" in lift on 04 F150 Screw with 2.25 monotube coil overs that use the stock coil springs. i sheared off the stud on top of the strut and it made a little larger hole through the bushing plate. do i need a spring compressor to unload the coils before they come out. never done coil overs before. thanks

Yes, you need a heavy duty coilspring compressor to remove the coilsprings.
