Man, you have to ditch that Dodge front axle. It really should have never even been considered.

I dont know what perch width you are set up for, but you shouldnt mind redoing the hangers/shackles anyways, setup for whatever Ford axle you choose.

It doesnt even have to be a D60 if money is the main concern. Get a 77.5-79 D44HD from a 250, save $600-700 and spend that in your crossover steering setup.

You might would be out $1000-1500 once you redo the hangers and everything. Plus you would have a high pinion axle so that one day you could put a front shaft in. You are never going to get a working front driveshaft with that low pinion axle.

Rocks are great, but you really do have to dump a TON of money into them to drive well enough on the street. You are looking at rebuilding everything just to make the tolerances tight enough to not feel sloppy as hell. Add in the steering, disc brakes, and custom rims....and its a lot more than you would initially figure.

Buy a cheap beater (I used $300 '87 Nissan Stanza), park the truck, save for a D60 or D44hd, and do it all right as once so you dont spend the next 3 years dumping your paycheck into it once a week. Just trying to help, as I have been there, done that.

hey Jesse, its not really a money issue anymore. My Job is paying EXTREMELY well. Only reason i thought of Rockwells was that it would be an upgrade, plus i could get away with running Michelins without breaking shafts all the time.

I know its not the best axle for the road. But wouldnt be better off in the long run? I really dont care about alittle sloppyness on the road as long as its controlable

Another reason i was thinking Rocks was that eventually the truck will be offroad only on Rice and Cains so was thinkin might go ahead and do it.

I know the expense of Rocks prepairing them for the road is high but atleast i dont have to worry about breaking them.

Let me know if im just not thinking straight

Man, i thought this was kind of funny...I'm in Mrytle Beach, SC right now for vacation. Well tonight we were down on Ocean Blvd. aka "the Strip"...and we saw this single cab Z71, (I think it was an early 2000's model) GMC...from what the douschebag of a guy said that was driving it, he has a D60 up front with a 14 bolt rear, and thats all he would say because he was obviously "to cool" to talk to anyone about it, and he just walked off. It was a white body with "Farmboy Kustoms" on the side..funniest part about this whole story....(drumroll please)!!

The dumbass was running 52" Michelins on it! All he could do in that thing was do exactly what he was doing...ride down a nice stretch of straight flat road! haha..I guess all this reminded me of this thread because I remember you posting to never put anything like that on the type of axles your running...btw, didnt harley97 on here do that and said he regretted it? Well, anyway, I snapped a few pics just to show yall and should have them up by tmmrw..

well depends on how deep his pockets are.

I know of atleast 2 people running 52's on 1 ton axles. But these guys also have REDICULOUS amounts of money in these axles. Much more than you and i would like to think about. But yeah IT can be done, is it worth it, NO not to me. A tire waiting almost 400# without the wheel is overkill on a D60. The 14 bolt is rediculously strong and if built correctly can take the road use. But in Dana axles either a D60 HD, D70, or D80 would be the only way id even consider it. and D70's an 80's dont have much aftermarket support, so you might be stuck undergeared. I think the best way to run 52 Mich's is with Rockwells. The gearin and strength is there.

and yes harley97 did run this setup and i talked to him multiple times each time he said he hated it. Now i believe he is working on 4link and 2.5 Tons

Yea, I agree with you...And trust me, the guy didnt look like he had that type of cash. I think he just wanted something huge to take up and down the strip (completely pointless IMO too)...Idk, I guess the part that pissed me off was that the guy was a complete douschebag (hell, I'd be excited as crap if people wanted to talk to me about my truck)

And once again I agree, the only way I'm running those tires is with 2.5tons or maybe even 5tons of I decide to run some big tractor tires...but thats way on down the road...

I've found that the people who don't want to talk about the things they have done to their autos are usually the ones who didn't actually do it themselves.

You know, I never really thought about that but you're exactly right...(or it could of been the fact that he owned a chevy ) haha, but honestly, yall are probably right. All the guy even wanted to mention was "Dana60 and a 14bolt rear"...more than likely because that's all the shop told him they were doing to it haha!

got the 46's mounted last night but the truck is undriveable. If you go over 10mph you start a severe death wobble.

Gonna look more into it today. Ill post some pictures too.

the truck is holding up decently. Got some issues but thats gonna happen on any truck this big thats a DD. my driveshaft is binding up now and have no clue why. Its never done it before so ive got to get to the bottom of that. worked on the truck all morning. My truck was toe-out about 2" so i fixed that. Now its toe-in 1/16th inch more than the back. After that i got the truck up to 20 mph then it starts the wobble. Im gonna have to rebalance the tires im afraid.
