Question Anti-sway bar end links loose

I was just replacing the shocks on my truck (went with the Rancho 5000s again - no complaints, good bang for the buck). While I was shoving the protector boots into the hole in the lower A-arm I noticed that the end links for my (stock) anti-sway bar are very loose (approx. 1" of play). I've never noticed this before and I'm wondering if it's normal. My truck has been clunking in turns, but I figured that was due to the ball joints wearing out (will replace those and tie-rod ends ASAP). 137k and counting, still Ford tough.

Thanks in advance for any responses. (And sorry if this has come up before, but I couldn't get the search to work.)

no, the sway bar should stay where it is with someone just pushing on it.

check underneath the a-arm where the link from the sway bar goes into the a-arm. if you dont see a nut there you need to get one. if it was me i would go ahead and buy a bolt and nut. its ok to buy these from a hardware store.

That's what I figured, just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy. So either the nut loosened itself or the bolt yielded. Either way, no good. I'll try your suggestion of the hardware store.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers ,
Jeff

I have noticed some noise/vibration in my front end so I checked my sway bar links. The passenger side was loose. I replaced both May of 2003 at 43,000 miles. I may purchase repair kit (2 links) Item#: NCP2651323 from Napa for $21.99.

Because it's a weak design. This is a very common failure on our trucks.

Is there any way to get a little more life out of the end links. Mine are clunking and was wondering if anyone knows a trick or two to quiet them down for a while.

Read a post about using channelok pliers to do something????
