Looking for help about lowering my 4X4

Hello to all:

I own a 06 F-150 FX4 S/C and i'm looking to lower it.

I know everyone wonders why i want this but it's for a good reason. One i live and work where the winters are harsh, so thats why the need for 4x4. The FX2 is what i really like, but you can't trust it in the winter here, even with extra weight in the back. And two i like the look of a lowered truck (not slammed though), and would like to get the rear in the air look gone.

My truck sits about 5 1/2" inches in the front (top of tire to wheel well) and a wopping 9 1/2" in the rear. I think maybe 1" to 2" in the front, and 3" to 4" in the rear would look great and still give me more clearance that most vehicles out there.

Most kits are for 4x2, but there are some for 4X4. Like GroundForce that has a 1"-3" kit and Belltech also. But i don't if that is enough to get the rear down. Is there anyone out there that has had this done to their truck, or know of any links with step by step pictures? It would be greatly appreciated.

u may like it and thats fine.. but honestly i dont think u can get the numbers u want...all the 4wds ive seen lowered dont sit any lower than a stock 2wd truck.. i think also u underestimate the capabilities of a 2wd truck..

I lowered my truck my self 5yrs ago and never had a problem and i use my 4 wheel drive all the time.

I'm sure i can find a happy medium i'm sure. In total i've owned 2 2WD's and this being my 2nd 4X4. Unless your off roadin' there is no need for that height, and as for the 2WD trucks up here in the snowbelt, we call them summer vehicles. In recent years i've loaded them down with sand bags, cement blocks ect. So thats my delema, i want traction in the winter, which is why the 4X4, and the need to lower it, is for a lower *** end stylin' kinda truck in the summer. Thanks for your reply though Al

Looks good, but a little to slammed for me. I'm looking for about 3" in the front wheelwell, and 3" to 4" in the whelwell rear look. The way it sits now I have to take a run and dive into the box to get my hockey gear out! Thanks for your reply buddy. Al

If you loosen your tortion bars you should be able to get
3" out of that and 4" lowering springs from a 2wd in the rear.

From what you describe, it sounds like the previous owner put a larger than stock lift block in. There should only be 2" more in the rear than the front, not 4". Here's what you should do,

Remove rear blocks and install 2wd u-bolts
Install Belltech 3" drop leaves
Install Belltech 2" drop coils and an alignment kit.

Now you should have about 3.5" of tire clearence F/R

2" coils http://www.stylintrucks.com/part.aspx?category%7ccategory_root%7c-30=Suspension&attribute_value_string%7cBrand=Bellt ech&canned_results_trigger=&partfamilyid=3340&part id=482048
3" leaves http://www.stylintrucks.com/parts.as...tfamilyid=3346
align kit http://www.stylintrucks.com/parts.as...tfamilyid=2498
2wd u-bolts http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...07&catalogid=2

BTW you need to order 4 u-bolts, an you only need the standard duty ones, the heavy duty models are the the HD payload package and are thicker in diameter and require a new u-bolt plate and new nuts.

Wow, come to think of it, thats what he must have done. I also heard i can put a 1" block along with new U bolts in there instead of that 2" thats there. That along with my 2" Belltech shackles, will give me 3" total in the rear. And as for the front maybe just springs. I'll take all this info and give the local suspension shop a call, and see if this will do it. Thanks 05RedFX4
