Exclamation Question about Bilstein 5100's and Autospring 2.5" leveling kit....

I have a question,

Okay so if I put Bilstein 5100's in the front and set them at the 2" setting.........can I also put a 2.5" leveling kit on that too?? So then could it be possible to get 4.5" of lift out of them together or am I a j@ckazz for thinking this is possible. On 07fx4silver's description of his truck in his gallery, he has 2.5" autospring then down a ways, it says bilstein 5100's?? I'm confused and want to find out.

If this is possible couldnt you just get ONE bigger block and maybe add a leaf too? and then you'd have like a 4 or 4.5 inch lift?

I don't think that will be possible. To tag along to your question, how does the 2" lift get gained is the coil pre-loaded and ride a little rougher? Or does the coil just get shifted up?

Nope cant do it because your at horrific angles with your CV's and balljoints. A lift like a procomp also lifts it but at the same time everything gets brought back down to get the angles back to stock. And with bilsteins your ride will be alittle rougher, from what I have heard.

you wouldn't be able to get the uca back onto the knuckle. i have heard some people complain about the ride with bilsteins, honestly i never rode in a truck with bilsteins. if you want the most lift for cheapest and you can spin a wrench, go with a leveling kit and a body lift. cheapest way to get as high as a 6 inch lift. jesse101 has a body lift and a leveling kit and it looks bad ***. 07silverfx4 originally had the autospring leveling kit and then he went with the bilsteins, not at the same time. why don't you just throw a leveling kit on your truck and buy some 35's for the 20's you got and then save up for a lift.

The Bilstein's would have to be at the 0 setting and use the leveling kit to gain the height because the leveling kit was in there first. You can't use both at the same time.

Exactly.

The pure physics of combining the two could never add up. I dont see how anyone who has been hands on with the suspension on these trucks could even think it was possible.

To add... the bilstiens in my opinion add a much firmer, more quality ride tha stock! Some like it and some dont!

I recommend the Bilsteins over a spacer for leveling!

As the others have already said! You could only use the Bilsteins at the stock setting in conjunction with a spacer! Not both! Anything over 2.5 inches you should be looking into a full suspension system!

Cheers

The bilsteins don't ride rough. The people who complain about them are girls. They are BARELY stiffer than the factory FX4 shocks with 30k miles.
Besides, they should be more firm, this is the whole idea behind aftermarket shocks. BETTER DAMPENING to deal with the extra unloaded weight of over-sized tires, and prevent bouncing off-road. The bilsteins are great, and do not ride rough.

Right. Otherwise we would all just go buy a pro-comp 6" spacer and have 6" of lift.
It doesn't work that way.

Someone on this site has a 2" leveling kit and the Bilstein's set at 1" and said it worked. Gained 3 inches and maybe destroyed the front suspension.

The other reason this is a bad idea is because the bilsteins allow more suspension droop than the factory shocks, something like 1-2". I wish I would have measured them before they were installed, but this is what bilstein claims.
Anyway, even it was only 1" of extra droop, in addition to the 2" leveling kit, the suspension would droop 3" lower than factory. Definitely putting some stress on the CV joints and ball joints, possibly tie-rod ends too.

I loved my old Bilstein 5100's. I ran 'em for only a couple of thousand miles but compared to my OEM FX4 shocks, they were more firm yet less harsh. Valving is the key to these shocks. Finally, either go with the 5100's at the 2" setting or go with the 0 setting and the Autospring spacer. If you go with the AS, you'll gain about .5" over the 5100's at the 2" setting.
