Stupid Suspension Question

OK, so I have a stupid question that I should be able to answer for myself, but just want to check with the experts..

I need to level my truck to fit my 275/65/20's... I want it as mild as possible.. I also need new shocks, since the truck has 55k on it..

I found AutoSpring Leveling kit with 1.5" raise. I know most i not all will tell me to grow a set and just get the 2" kit.. But I dont know. Even little bit helps. The less the better in my wifes eyes...

So, I think I understand how to put them on. No spring compression needed, right?

But now I also want to do the shocks. Which will require the springs to be compressed and the perch's removed.

So I assume most will recommend doing the Bilstiens at the 2" setting, which I may resort to. I was thinking of doing the 1" setting on the shocks, but am afraid it wont give me the clearance I need....

Is there any way to tell the clearance that a 1" will give? Hate to be the guinne pig...

So whats your thoughts? Spacer & shock? or just new adjustable shocks?

Thanks

are you 2wd or 4wd?

thats a 34" tire. if your 2wd it wont fit. if your 4wd it should. i would get a 2" just for the assurance of it fitting. its really not that much lift, my dad and sister both have 2 1/2" and it made a difference but nothing that made it hard to get into or made it huge. if you go with a 2" you will get about 3" more lift total from the lift and tires. also if your 4wd you can go with a little wider tire if you want. the rule is: 4x4= 35/12.50 and a 2x4= 33/12.5

If you need shocks also, get a set of Bilstein 5100s. They can do the leveling for you, and get new shocks at the same time.

If you have a 4x4 and use the OEM 20 inch wheels, I think you can fit those tires with only an inch of lift, or maybe even at stock height because of the relativly narrow 275mm width. If you have a 4x2, you probably need 2.5 inches of lift at least.

Gotcha. Thanks. Yes, Im 4x4...

Im either going to get the 1.5 Autosprings and the Yellow Bilsteins, or the 5100's set at 1"...

Anyone know the aprox cost of the yellow Bilstiens.

I am not that familiar with suspensions, but if the tires rub, most say it will be on the control arms. Then how would the level kit keep this from occuring? It seems to me that the level kit just gives more clerance from the body and fender. Since the level kit is just moving the suspension through a normal ranger of motion..?

Thanks
Steve

Exactly, the leveling kit won't affect the rubbing on the control arms. You probably won't have that porblem with a 275mm wide tire.
