Taking a Leaf out
Taking a Leaf out
I got a 2004 lariat supercrew lariat, i have a 3" leveling kit in the front and the front still is just a wee bit shorter than the rear end, i've seen plenty 2004-2008 chevy silverado's take a leaf out of the back to make the front sit a tad higher than the back. So I wanna get one leaf taken out to make the front sit higher, is there a certain leaf I need to take out? and has anyone else tried this
before you do anything to the rear, pull that 3'' leveling kit off, and go down to a 2''. you're putting way too much stress on your balljoints, cv shafts, etc. don't be crying when a boot tears, or your balljoints pop too fast for your liking.
dude, don't be a ****. not everyone who installs a leveling kit realizes the consequences of doing so. i wasn't trying to sound condescending, really.
your leveling kit is what is killing your ride not your leaf springs, but don't listen to me. its not like i know anything.
just because i told you something you don't want to hear makes it wrong and unhelpful. in any case, pulling out a spring won't make the front sit higher, but it'll lower the rear. proportionally, it'll probably give you a "bulldog" stance, but technically, the front won't sit any higher than it already is. pulling out a spring will soften the ride some, but like i said, it won't be like stock b/c of the angles from your leveling kit.
alternatively, you could pull the 2'' rear block. you'll definitely notice a drop in the rear's height as well. your truck's payload won't be affected, either.
if you want height and a stock ride, you'll need to pull out the leveling kit, and install either a body lift, or a full suspension lift. period.

alright, thanks mini, thats pretty much what i asked for, i know it won't sit higher, but i want it too look like it does. so if i pull the rear block is there any negative affects? i'm wanting the front to look like it sits higher...

no, you'll probably need new u-bolts though. if so, you'll need four, two for each side. i can't say for sure though, i don't know how far the threads go down. cheap ones are available at any local parts store. there are no negative side effects to removing the rear blocks, either. your truck's abilities will not be affected in any way. like i said, you'll definitely notice a 2'' drop in the rear, and the front will appear to sit noticeably higher. if the 2'' rear drop is too much for your liking, i'm sure you could find 1'' blocks somewhere.
btw, sorry for the backlash response. rereading what i wrote made me realize i may have sounded harsh.
for everyone!

remember, removing a leaf WILL affect your truck's payload, if that's important to you. if WILL soften the ride some, however, that leveling kit is what is killing your ride, and removing a leaf will NOT compensate for what the leveling kit is doing to the front suspension.
honestly, i think the drop in rear height by leaf removal will not be enough to justify the consequences of doing so. you may need new u-bolts for pulling out the leaf too, i don't know. take a look at the threads, and see if its possible for the nuts to be tightened down any further to compensate for the future absence of a leaf/block.
these are your two options working with the setup you have, and the stance you desire to achieve.

I took out my overload spring a while back and my leafs started to creak and moan. I ended up putting it back in. It dropped me 3/4". I wouldnt recommened altering the leaf pack.
However if you wish to do it anyways, take out the really short thick leaf at the bottom of the stack. You will not need new U bolts, but you will need new centering bolts that go through the leaf pack.

im not sure about this, but wouldnt removing a leaf increase body lean in turns? an f150 handles badly enough, but i myself wouldnt wanna do anything to make it worse. removing the blocks would allow you to maintain payload and keep about the same handling.
