Exclamation Leaf Springs Making Noises

Hey guys just thought id ask some of yall opinions on this. My Leaf spring have been doing this for a little bit but it just getting worse and worse. Sounds like creaking noises and crap like that. Now my question is whats the problem? Could it be the bushings , axle wrap , or what? Just wanna get it fixed before i leave in the next week or two for Iraq. Thanks for your help in advance. You can hear it alot worse when i turn up into my driveway if that helps or any turns that involves stuff like that

I didnt see any cracks but i can go look out there again. I know my shocks are just about shot. But the sounds are no where near what the shocks make. I wish i could get a sound clip which i will try to do today ill have a buddy video tape me driving up the driveway.

Hey man I dont know about the newer year models but on mine there is plastic pads between the ends of the leaf springs and if they are missing it will make a loud squeaking noise that is very noticable when driving or when you hit bumps, 2 of mine are missing and it`s driving me nut`s listening to that noise. Does anyone know where to order these plastic pads? besides the stealership which I`ve already tried

I was told the same about the pads and when they wear down they produce the same sound. I need to change mine cause like you that noise has just got to me.

that sounds kinda like mine but alot louder, if you look at each end of the leaf springs you will be able to see if any pads are missing or you can see where the metal is shiny where it has been rubbing, if there is any pads missing try spraying WD40 on the ends and drive it and see if the sound goes away, if there is none missing it could be in the bushing`s where the leaf springs bolt up to the frame, I think you could just park on the roof of that house your truck is so tall but I like it if you need some pics of where I`m talking about I can take some to show you where the pads are at.

I had a '97 F150 and I was having similar problems. In fact, it was the plastic pad thing. Took it to a dealer, all he did to stop it was wrap about 15 wraps of tape around it. I ask if that was the "offical ford fix". He said they could order new leaf springs. Yea what ever. Well it stopped the noise, but I took the tape off and found some foam and wedged it up in there and then taped it up again. I never had any problems with it after that. A buddy had the same problem and wedged a close pin in place. He said it worked for him. If it is the plastic deal. Try taking a wedge shaped piece off an old tire or something and push it up in there. Then wrap a little tape on it. That might get you by until you get back from Iraq. Good luck.

I think i know what your talking about but pictures would help. Once one of us figure it out then we can all share what we did haha and help each other out. If i cant do it now then ill have someone do it while im gone. But first gotta fix the cracked extended hose that came with the PA body lift ( Must have cracked when taking out last time). I ordered a new one and had it overnighted bc i cant fill my tank until i get it replaced and also bc were leaving on Fri or Sun. So it better be here tomorrow

Hey mhockey, my mom's 98 Expy made and makes those same noises when the back springs are flexed a little... my buddy's 04 explorer makes the same noise, maybe even worse. And my 08 FX4 does it too... only when there is a bunch of crap up in the leaf spring pack tho... like dirt and stuff... I think it may just be a Ford think IMHO if you have a lot of miles on your truck, especially if a good bit are offroad miles, then I would think you might just need to replace your leaf pack to get rid of it... but really, I would say you are safe - your truck shouldn't fail or anything - unless there's something to do w/ your lift, but probly nothing to do w/ that.... just my .02

Do you have an add a leaf kit?

Had the same exact sound and it was the add-a-leaf rubbing closer to the center pin bolts vs the pads on the leaf above it. It was about a foot away from the center pin bolts towards to the rear of the truck. I jacked the truck up, let the leafs sag, and saw a section that had tons of rust on it. Stuck the grease gun in that rusted area and the problem is gone.
