2.5 leveling kit..

2.5 leveling kit..

i ordered a 2.5 leveling kit, will the 2.5 leveling kit hurt anything in my 4x4 2005 truck? ball joints or cv joints?

My opion is that the 2.5" leveling kit puts quite an angle on the upper ball joint. I just ordered a 2" for my 08. It's not much of a difference from the 2.5 but every little bit helps.

Obviously it will put your angles at even more of an angle than stock so it will wear parts faster but i have had my 2" AS on for about 1 1/2 years and no problems and have beat the **** out of my truck Off Roading.

Anytime you increase the angles of the ball joints and CV joints you increase the wear. As long as you don't go over 2.5 inches you will be ok.

does a 2 1/2" leveling actually measure 2 1/2". The reason I'm asking is I just purchased a dynastar 2 1/2" leveling kit and it's actual height was just under 2".

My AS 2" spacer was actually about 1.5" thick. I called them and they said because of angles, etc. a shorter spacer actually creates the advertised lift.

They were right.

They were right.
Of course. The coil is mounted toward the outside of the control arm. The inside of the arm is a fixed mount. That means it's like a lever. 1.5" at the coil may end up 2" at the end of the control arm.
This is why you could have a suspension with 6" travel shocks and get 12" of wheel travel, for example.

Just Installed 2.5" AS Kit

Here are some things that I encountered during install. First and foremost, the kit made the truck look awesome, leveled it right out like it should be. I also noticed that the 2.5" kit didn't measure that, but it did lift the front 2.5". I had a problem right off the bat. I started on the passenger side. After removing the tire, I went for the sway bay nut. What a pain in the rear! It took me every bit of 45 minutes to finally get it off with much frustration, vise grips, and a wrench! After I got the nut off, the rest went very smoothly...until I had to put the nut back on. More of the same....much frustration, vise grips, and a wrench! I did figure out that if I had just put a small socket on the bottom of the bolt the nut is on, I could have had it off in no time! I was concerned that I had damaged the boot, but the dealership said it should be ok (took it there for the front end alignment). With the lessons learned on the passenger side, the driver side only took about 20 minutes! I highly recommend the use of a small socket (either 7mm or 8mm) on the sway bar bolt to keep it from spinning while you turn the nut. All in all, I couldn't be happier and the kit is great as you aren't changing the factory ride like you would with torquing the torsion bars.
