What lifts the front of the truck with a lift kit?
What lifts the front of the truck with a lift kit?
If anyone could help me out with this, please let me know. I know it's probably a dumb question, but what components lift it up?
I have an AS leveling kit, and I'm looking for a bit more lift, if i have to buy it all seperately i'll do it, but what are these components?
Thanks

Decide on the lift that you want. Then contact that manufacturer and ask if you can order the parts separately. In most cases, you can't just add a part here & there as you save up enough for each component. That is why they are sold as kits.
on an IFS truck like these, the lift in the front generally comes from the subframe crossmembers. the suspension is dropped down to compensate for the lift. generally, the lift contains the subframe crossmembers, bigger steering knuckles, longer shocks, etc. none of these parts are cheap, and they must be installed as a system, hence the reason they are sold as a kit.
the rear generally consists of blocks, leaf springs, or a combination of the two, along with u-bolts and longer shocks.

if your looking to buy peice by peice you should get a set of directions from a 6" lift. it will tell you everything included.
mainly two new drop cross members, to drop the lower A arms down, to compensate for that drop you need longer knuckles to reach back up the the upper control arms, you will need something to actually lift the coil set up, either a coilover ment for 6" lift, a 6" spacer, a new coil/strut. then you need all the drop down brackets to drop the front axle, to keep the CV joins in line. brake line extensions, new rack and pinion brackets to drop that down to get away from bump steer, new cambolts to go with the new dropped cross members so you can align the sucker, most of the kits come with compression struts, which are basically supports that mount from the transmission cross member to the new rear drop cross member. Sway bar dop down brackets. you need all the nuts and bolts to assemble all these things, and porbably a set of directions. thats mainly what the front consisits of. the rear is either a block, add a leaf, longer u-bolts, new shocks. pretty basic, the rear you could buy part by part, the front not so much. the kits will also have tons of little brackets to tie everything in together with.
An IFS suspeison is much more complicated to lift than just buying basic lift components ie: bigger coils or bigger leafs.
The Kit is where its at.
