Question 4x4 vibration

Okay, I think I've asked this before, just never fixed the issue.. mainly because I never drive in 4x4, but I want to go ahead and fix it.. lol

Anywho, I'm driving on a 6" Procomp and I get vibrations from the front end over 40+ mph in 4x4.. I've heard the solution is to reclock and balance the front driveshaft, is this correct? I probably have no idea how to do this, so can any of you recommend a place or what kinda shop could do this? I've heard people paying $60-70 and that sounds great to me.. can the dealership do this, or should I take it to a offroad shop, or how about the shop that re-geared my truck?

Was the driveshaft not re-clocked when the lift was installed?? If it wasn't, it's a pretty easy job to take out the shaft yourself and clock it. A driveshaft shop will have to re-balance it. But, they just gave mine back to me and said it didn't need balancing. But, if the shaft has already been clocked and balanced......then you gonna need a new CV style shaft.

hmm.. I doubt it was clocked and rebalanced from the beginning, the manager of the local DiscountTire did my lift. Him and his buddy do it on the side, but I guess they didnt think to re-clock it.. what is needed to reclock it myself? I'm sure I could probably do it myself, but I'd prefer to have it done professionally just in case I got in over my head..

try and do it yourself. if you get in over your head, just throw the driveshaft in your truck and drive somewhere to get it done.

I don't know about the Procomp kit.....but every other kit has a section where it says in really big letters that you must re-clock he shaft. So, if they read the instructions, I would hope they clocked it. You can tell really easy by just getting under the truck and looking. The hardest part is getting the shaft off the truck. To re-clock it, all you do is pull the shaft apart at the slip yoke.......grind off a speck of metal about the size of a pencil lead, and then put it back together.

Again, my shaft didn't need to be re-balanced, but you should probably check anyway.
