front suspension problem/question

I've got a '99 4x4 and I just had the shop change the lower ball joints...they said they dropped the torsion bars when they did it (I don't know why...)...the truck rode like crap so I figured it was time to change the shocks...when I installed the new shocks I noticed that they were fully extended when the truck was lowered (not good)...I thought the parts store had given me the wrong shocks but they matched old ones...the shop must have raised the front end up when they re-installed the torsion bars by raising the pre-load...I loosend the bars 8 turns on both sides and the truck went down about an inch 1/2...now, the truck feels too loose...How in the heck do I know what the stock settings should be on the torsion bar preload?...thanks....

All of our truck seem to have a different amount of preload. Just set your ride height to where you want it and get an alignment.
