Hey all, when do you know it's time to change the shocks on these trucks? I have 102,000 miles on them presently and was curious how long they could last.

 

They have probably been gone for quite a while now. The springs on these trucks are heavy enough that it is very hard to tell the shocks are bad. However, change them and you will find they make a world of difference.
I usually change the OEs out at 30k.

 

Yep...you were done about 62,000 miles ago on the stockers. That's the funny thing about shocks...they degrade so slow and gradual you never notice it...until you install new ones.

 

what about aftermarket style shocks? i the fx4 so it comes with rancho shocks. how long do they last? im probably going to replace them with my 70,000 mile tuneup

 

The FX4 Rancho's aren't much/if any better than the stockers. I am pretty sure they are the same shock, just produced by rancho to look good.

 

I have an 02 fx4 what are some good shocks to replace my factory shocks with?

I don't remember when I changed my shocks on my F-150 (think it was at 60k), but I do remember the stock shock was pretty easy to compress. The Bilsteins on the other hand, they required LOTS of effort!

Bilstein shocks are the only way to go IMO... They are expensive and a pain in the **** to install (the rears aren't bad, the fronts are a b*tch), but nothing comes close to the ride quality...

 

how much of a job is it to change shocks on an 04+ 4x4

 

What is the difference between the Bilstein Racing shock and the Bilistein BST Heavy Duty shock in respect to highway ride quality?

 

When it comes time to replace my shocks, I'm going Bilstein!........
