Fabtech + 4HI

Fabtech + 4HI
Well I've only had my 2.5 AS for 2 weeks and I'm seriously deciding to pull the trigger on the Fabtech. We see a good amount of snow here, so I frequently use 4HI up to 45-50mph. I understand that I need to re-key and balance the front driveshaft. But even after doing that, should I expect vibration? Also, am I better off taking off the AS...or can should I just leave it on?

TAKE OFF THE LEVELING KIT.
The Fabtech lift without the leveling kit will bring your suspension back to factory angles. You will want this if you use 4x4 often and at high speed. If you have bad angles you are asking for premature ball-joint wear and CV shaft wear. The CV boots are known to tear easily too with those bad angles.

I would remove the spacer, especially if heavy off-roading. Its putting your front CV's at an "un-pleasent" angle, to say the least. If your doing heavy 4hi driving, they are wearing and tearing quicker then normal. Plus, with the 2.5" leveling kit, plus the Fabtech, you'd want 37" tires to look good and fill it out. Its up to you.
As for any issues running in 4hi, NOPE. I have done it, and had zero complaints. I didn't need to re-balance my DS either. I re-keyed it, flipped it around, and was good to go. put the slip yoke end closer to the front dif vs. the T-case. Doing that, plus re-clock and key, and a balance if needed, and your golden.

It depends what look your going for.
Fabtechj lift, with no other lift mods, gives you a perfectly flat, level look. If you tow often, or haul heavy loads, you may want to keep the AAL. It will make the rear end look higher under normal driving, but will keep the truck level when towing/hauling. Its up to you.
And you'd be surprised. People are always looking for a deal. List em at the right price, and someone with a stock truck, who want a little lift but can't afford the suspension lift, might want em. They have a classified section on this site, as well as Craigslist !
