Loose steering?

2001 Supercrew 4x4 5.4L

Recently I just rerplaced all ball joints and the idler arm along with getting the alignment done.

It seems that the the sterring is real loose especially at higher speeds. And when I hit some bumps it seems to want to jump to one side or the other and the steering wheel really moves.

Then today I was driving and looking at the front drivers tire over some bumops and the tire and wheel really moves alot. These were decent size bumps.

Any ideas????

Thanks, Marty

look for grease or cracks in the boots on the ends of the tie rods. check for play in the idler arm by hand.

This may sound like a dumb answer, but back when I had my 01 with 38's I had to change my Idler arm about every 6 months. One time I forgot to put locktite on the bolts and they worked there way out, so the Idler Arm was just really loose. And did the exact same thing you had metioned. Double check the bolts on the Idler arm for safe measure.
