Upper control arm boots shot after leveling kit

Installed my leveling kit last fall and now I’m noticing that the upper control arm boots are tore up that cover the ball joint. Is this a common problem when using a 2” leveling kit or just the result of a poor installation?

Thanks for the leads and it looks like there kits would fix the problem.

Is this something that most guys just deal with as part of having the leveling kit? I'm ask because the entire time I was reading posts and doing searches nobody brought up the fact that this would happen.

I am thinking of doing a 2 inch level. I did not think that it would cause problems until about 75k. Where did you find the Camburg control arms?

Were you boots possibly torn during installation. It's easy to do.

I was surprised that the boots had torn so soon too. When Paralyzer suggested the aftermarket control arms I googled the name and found the website from there. The stuff looks pretty good and the install looks straight forward also. If you can handle the cost, $600, it looks like the way to go.

To answer Wandell's question it is very possible that the boots were damaged during the installation but if it happened I never noticed it.

If this was a common problem with leveling kits I'm sure it would have been posted by now.

Agreed. I had a buddy rip his during his install. I never ripped a pair and had them on both of my trucks without any problems. I'm going to say that this is from a poor installation. When they were pulling apart the ball joint to get the spindle to drop, they slipped and pinched the boot. The leveling kit really won't cause the boot to rip, just for the joint to wear out faster.

Thump is right, the BJ boot is designed to cover the BJ during its full range of motion. It had to of been damaged by something else and the install seems like the most probable option.

I have read 2.5 is too much... Is two inches too much? Or should I go with the 1.5, and net 2?

Are you kidding? Or being serious? I can never tell with you ...

Anyways, personally, I think 2.0" is a great size. I'd run the Bilstein 5100s with the 2" lift built into them and call it a day.

If you really don't want to risk messing anything up.... Just keep 'er stock.
I have never been able to bring myself to level mine for that reason, but I drive my truck on the farm quite a bit... If you stay on the roads most of the time you should be fine.

I was serious. I don't know that much about it...only what I have read. I have read on this forum, numerous times, that if one does a 2 inch level, it raises it more than two inches. I was just wondering which size was safer. Maybe you thought I was joking because, maybe I am totally confused, and have been given bad information. I dunno. You think 2 inches for my level?
