Overload Springs
Overload Springs
Hi All,
What are your thoughts on purchasing heavier springs or overload springs to increase to ability for in box load handling? I wouldn't be going over the GVRW anyways but i would like my truck to sit half level when pushing the load limit.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

The hell-wig helper/overload springs work very nice, but your truck will ride like a tank when it is unloaded. They are adjustable and can raise the back end of your truck 1-2".
I run hell-wig pro helper springs (2 overload springs on top of existing leaf pack) and 2 add-a-leafs on each side. Works great my 1998 F150 4x4 5.4L Auto w/ 8' bed. Stiff ride when empty but it rides like a Caddy when fully load down and pulling a 7,000 pound + trailer.
Another option is to buy completely new rear leaf packs with 5 leafs per side. JC Whitney sells a heavy duty set. Or a local spring shop will fix you up.
3 weak leaf springs on a 1/2 ton truck is crazy. It might be OK for a V6 but not a 5.4L with an 8' bed. (You may have more with a '07)
Yet another option is to get air helper springs. But if you take your truck off road it might not be the best choice. Plus the traditional leaf springs will probably last longer then rubber air springs.
Good luck and choose wisely.

It all depends on how much weight you plan on hauling. I routinely load the back of mine with dozens of 100 pound police riot barricades. The add-a-leaf kit from Pro Comp Explorer works just fine for me.
