Whats the dirt on procomp 6"?
So I pretty much wasted everyones time asking about the rancho 4" that I had set up for purchase, but now in a weird series of events... Long story short I'm not buying it.
Now I'm browsing 6" lifts and my local shop says that they won't touch pro comp lifts because they are such garbage and that the sub frames crack. Is this a serious issure or is my shop just pushing fabtech because they are a fabtech dealer? I know fabtech is obviously better, but is procomp that terrible? My only concern with fabtech is warranty issues involved with driveline and frame cutting and modification. Anyone have input? Thanks again to everyone who shared all their 4" knowledge.

i believe they all require some trimming. the rancho and fabtech install a lot smoother and easier than a procomp. i agree pro comp might not be as good as a kit, but unless you are heavy off roading that kit should last you the life of the truck. they arent bad kits, pro comp has been around for a while.
I HAVE NO PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH ANY OF THESE KITS. I AM GOING COMPLETELY BY WHAT MULTIPLE INSTALLERS SAID.

I installed my own kit and love it. They all require cutting unless you go with the rise 8" I believe. They are all generally the same and you are just buying a sticker with a logo unless.......Some of the kits are stage I and some are stage II. Stage II kits come with aftermarked shocks and may include coils as well. That is where the kits differ. Any one who says Procomp is garbage is brand loyal to another kit. If you plan to do some heavy jumping, get a stage II kit. There is no reason a subframe should crack period.
Oh ya, not sure what year your truck is, But I am talking about the new style, so I can't speak on the old style.

I drive an 08 XLT, 6.5" bed. I'm going to get a stage one for now. If I decide on an upgrade then its an easy fix down the road. I kinda wondered about what the shop owner had said. He told me this long story about a guy in a dodge cracking the subframe, and how all procomps do it... on and on. I don't know what to believe. I know price wise they are quite a bit more reasonable. Am I correct in thinking that the pro comp doesn't require driveline modification?
aside from all that I have to keep in mind that it is a brand new $35000 truck... not much jumping in its near future

A lot of members have the Pro Comp lifts and I've never read a post on a subframe cracking. One member bent the Stage 1 spacer/mount, but he offroaded his truck really hard. I beleive he may have even jumped it occasionally. The Fabtech kit is a little better but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Pro Comp lift.
I have the 6" pro comp on my truck and i have beat it prety bad in all kindes of conditions wheeling in the arizona desert, glamis sand dunes, and now back home in the woods and mud pits of minnesota, and i havent broke any thing on my kit havent had so much as a bolt come loose, so i dnt think you would have any thing to wory about if the pro comp is the one you want

No problems here with my Pro Comp, finish could be better though. Now I would really love to have a BSD lift to test on my truck.
Broken crossmember? Highly doubt that, unless you're jumping your truck often but if that's the case no kit will stand up to that abuse. I've talked to plenty of shops and most all of them say the same: fabtech is a little better quality but you'd be hard pressed to see it much less notice it. I've heard of both kits (or any kit for that matter) having it's occasional problems. Also, I bet my pro comp stage 1 rides better with my Bilstein's then a standard fabtech (READ-not dirt logics). Point is you can't pick a bad lift weather it'd be pro comp, fabtech, etc. I went with pro comp because I wanted to run bilstein's, liked the skid plate and you can't beat the overall value. Go for it, you'll be happy no matter what kit you buy.
P.S. pro comp is a true 6" lift and there are more pro comp off-road kings...it's cheap who cares if you screw it up

ProComp skid plate looks sweet. I've submerged my truck in some pits while hunting and hit some stuff harder than I should have and no broken crossmember. If someone were to break it then they are probably doing something a solid axle truck is better suited for than any IFS.
i got my procomp kit used. it was abused by the orriginal owner and now by me and it shows no sign of wear. and like mentioned above, if you have something bad to say about procomp, its because your loyal to some other brand. anyone with a custom suspension system will tell you that fabtech and procomp are garbage so it just depends on who you ask that determines what answer you get.

naturally most of us would disagree, but i like my bolt-on kit and im not jumping or launching my truck so pro comp works great for me off-road and on-road.
Installed my PC stage 1 lift myself in my garage - everything went smoothly. No issues. That was back in January or so. No issues to date. I love the way it rides actually - just like stock. I would recommend upgrading to a 5" rear block instead of stacking (adding) the stage 1 block under the factory block in the back. Could also consider an add-a-leaf to the back to get the truck to sit level if you don't get the 5" block, plus if you tow an add-a-leaf will help your truck not sag as much when hooked to a trailer. Either option should only be around $100 or so I believe.
I also do not have any other experience with any other brand of lift. I just have nothing bad to say about pro comp. Works for me. The price of their lifts compared to the other brands is what attracted me to them. I easily saved approx. $400 compared to a fabtech lift. And you can upgrade to a stage 2 and make it an 8" lift very easily and still have the option for the skid plate.

dude to be honest i have the rize ive beaten the living **** out of my truck it still runs and what not.....ive had my truck 6 feet in the air thats why my bump stops are torn off ive mudded in any type from sand to clay.... ive rock crawled in my truck....ive done just about anything you could think of ive almost flipped it from doin donuts.....but i know thats not what you you want to hear but my second choice would have been the procomp if i was goin with the 6 inch lift theres more options from them that you can do in the future but i wanted my 8 inch lift so thats what i went with....and i can tell you right now im not a fan of fabtech....my dad has had 5 f 250's three f 350's and now he has an f150 on his 250's hes gone through skyjacker, fabtech, pro comp, and rize-(on his last one)...he had to replace an entire kit from fabtech and on the second kit he had to replace the front right shock twice due to failure....never had an issue with procomp rize or skyjacker.....then on his 350 he only lifted two of them and one had the rize and the other had sky jacker the skyjacker was fine just a really rough ride...procomp is pretty good and they have really good customer support
