no, you're talking an entirely custom setup. keep in mind that if a part of your SAS setup, let's say a bracket, you build fails, and causes you to hit/kill someone, YOU may be held liable.

Why didn't you just buy a F250 if you wanted a straight axle ??

X2... this is something i don't understand when people bitch about the IFS on these trucks. if you don't want it, pull off all the mod parts, sell them, go back to stock, and trade the truck in. then buy an F-250, which comes stock w/ a solid front axle. much easier, and safer than a fab job, imo. to the original poster, i'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but its true, and i am in no means trying to attack/insult you.

You guys act like a SAS is a totaly rediculous and foreign concept for a 1/2 ton truck. It has been done 75869683 times over the years and can be done with some work, time and money invested.

What would you tell the guy with the Bronco that wants a SFA? Sell it and get an Excursion?

It would be pretty damn easy to swap in a SFA, using leaf springs.

You got any custom fab skills ? Gunna need to be able to use a torch, and weld spring hangers, etc.

Here is one guy from here who did it:

here is his thread on pirate:

Made a VERY capable rig, you wouldn't need to go that extreme, but you can.

The last Peterson mag also had a special on swapping out chitty IFS for a SFA. I'll see if I can dig that up for ya as well.

I can make a "fab job" much better then factory. Far superior to their off road ability. maybe I don't want that HUGE Superduty, I like the look of the 150, like the size and the whole platform. Some people like to build, not buy. Its just a different group of people, thats all. And I applaud them for their willingness to customize the truck they want.

I like the Suzuki Samurai, but I stretch them out, give em Yota axles, and mod them like crazy, basically leaving the Sami hood, and sometimes the T-case. Does that mean I shouldn't ? and just buy something else ? To each his own bud.

I wasn't saying it couldn't be done. I've seen plenty of them. A lot of them turn out like crap and don't hold up. A lot of them do turn out great. Depends on who does the work. My point was this guy got on here talking about how bad his truck handled the "bush". Well uh, of course it does, it's probably stock and it's got IFS.

thats it ill try to find a pic!

really the steps are simple, get the truck off the ground and remove the front suspension. grind off any along the frame that might be in the way. the get a D60 or D44 (perfer D60). determine the lift that you want and get leaf spring pack to give you that lift! you will need the measrements from hanger to hanger then weld the hangers in. BOTH SIDES MUST BE PERFECTLY EVEN. The hardest part would be getting the front drive shaft to match up and the steering fabbed up!

there more than that i asure you but its the gist.

youll have to modify brake lines and probably brake boosters. the gears would also haave to match up so ight as well swap the rear axle out too.

If you want a 1/2 ton straight axle look at the Dodge Ram 1500s 4x4 from the 90s, you get a solid axle right out of the box.

Also the f250 has a solid front axle.

Or consider older Chevy / GMC pickups, or older Ford F150s.

Conversion is going to cost a fortune and probably won't be streatable. Sell it and get another truck with a solid front axle. Or buy a jeep if you want to off road alot.

what i meant to convey was that an improperly performed fabrication setup can be very dangerous. something to be aware of. if you want to pay someone to do it right, it will cost you. if you can do it yourself, more power to you.

fwiw, i agree that builds like you posted links to are awesome.
