I highly doubt its gonna do much to improve your MPG. You are running 40's i doubt you will get any better mpg by doing it! And also do you have gears... they arent in your SIG. Just wondering.

the driveshaft doesnt turn unless its in 4wd so it would be a waste of time

Don't even bother, not worth the time and the mileage you would gain would be negligible.

the enitre front assembly would still be spinning. wouldnt really be doing anything by taking the driveshaft out.

nbs front ends dont turn unless your in 4wd or you have a vac leak that is engaging your front hubs

^^x2 it won't turn unless in 4wd, so won't make any difference.

Indeed, on an '04-up, the hubs disengage in 2wd, and the front drivetrain stops turning. No mileage gains to be had by removing the front driveshaft.

now if you really wanted to get some mpg gains you could put your stock wheels and tires back on (if they fit with the lift)

If you are trying this with the engine off, the default for the front IWE's is locked. Only with the engine on and in 2wd will the front axles not turn.

Get the gears you need instead of removing the front drive shaft. Removing the drive shaft will not help with gas mileage. If a rear U joint goes bad then you can always come home in front wheel drive. hehehehehehe!!! I sure hope you have gears other than stock.

No. Engine on in 2wd, nothing in the front should turn. Not the axle and not the driveshaft. As soon as you shut off the engine, the axles should turn and the driveshaft should turn, simply because the IWE's are locked and exngaged with the axles. Only the 97-03 had always engaged axles. The driveshaft would not turn in 2wd as the front diff was disengaged. There is no engage/disengage of the front diff on the o4 up.
