Unsettled over bumps
Unsettled over bumps
This weeks riddle:
A couple weeks ago, I bought a well used 99 150 4x4. I replaced the shocks, tie rod assemblies and vertical sway bar links. All were noticeably worn out. When I test drove the truck (and still today after changing those parts), when I go over a large bump, the truck is very unsettled. Not the sharp chatter that comes from the rear end over railroad tracks. This is more of a tippy canoe feeling when going over longer bumps or dips in the road. I've noticed that when the front suspension compresses, the front of the truck is trying to go to the right and when it expands or releases, the front is trying to go left. When going around a gradual corner to the right, the feeling is exaggerated, when cornering to the left, the truck becomes very stable and solid feeling.
The truck sometimes has a slight pull to the left. I can still steer through it with 2 fingers on the wheel.
In the past I've always thought this type of behavior was caused by having a bad shock on one side or the other. Since I replaced that shocks, I've ruled that option out.
I'm looking for other ideas as to what might be causing this.
Thanks in advance

We might have a winner! Thanks wandell. When I was pulling on the tire before, I hadn't gotten any play from the ball joints. Last night I was really reefing on them (top/bottom) and I get a little clunk from the upper on the passenger side. If that tires camber is changing based on the suspension being compressed or not, that could make the truck pull left, then go straight.
I dropped the truck off this morning to get it changed. With a little luck, that will correct the problem.
I'll let you know tomorrow how it turns out.
