4x4 Front Shocks on 2wd for level?

I hear that you can take 4x4 front struts and shocks and put them on a 2wd to lift 2"? I was hoping that with this I can get a level, and also keep the correct angles on all joints. Anyone ever done it.

Just get the AutoSpring leveling kit for $80 shipped. Its cheaper and it works.

Ok, so the majority says not to do it. Why? Please give a reason. I want to, for one because I just like the idea of having a stock part give me the lift, with no other part.

It seems that a lot of the people who post here are partial to the AutoSpring kit. Why? Nobody has been able to produce a satisfactory answer other than that it is a low cost part. I am not completely convinced. I did not buy into it. On my car, I used the 2 piece Pro Comp Coil Spring Spacer. Look into the Bilstein or Rancho adjustable shocks. Rocky Mountain also has a few options for you to consider.

No the AS kit does not rub. Its the same as stock but with 2.5" of lift.

Hockey pucks work as body lifts too.

Cost is not an issue. Similar kits all retail for about the same amount, with some on eBay going for even less.

Is there any advantage to the AutoSpring's design, structural integrity, metals, et cetera? Leveling kits come in different shapes, designs, and materials. Some are steel, like the AutoSpring, and others are aluminum and polyurethane. Fat Bob's Garage offers several different versions and their steel kit advertises that they use pressed in studs, pulse welds, and powder coating.

According to the guy I talked to at my local 4WheelParts.com store, their Explorer Pro Comp line uses hard plastic so that you don't have to worry about the wear & tear of metal rubbing on metal during heavy duty (ab)use. The hardest I've driven my truck so far is to hop on and off curbs while pulling into parking spaces head first, and several vehicle pursuits on The Streets of San Francisco that replicated Steve McQueen in a Mustang chasing a Dodge Challenger. All pretty tame. No hard core, off road, rock crawling yet.

Ultimately, my choice was based on the fact that I was able to walk into a shop, deal with real people who could answer questions, and they were there in case anything went wrong - not some company with a website shipping from hundreds of miles away.....plus they offered installation by ASE certified techs.
