Question 4wd vs 2wd lift

Does anybody know what the main difference is in the parts between a 4wd suspension lift and a 2wd lift? I'm mainly looking at the RCD lift, but i'm sure its basically the same components for any type. Thanks for any help.

The difference in the lifts for 2wd and 4wd in the 97-03 F150's is.

1. 4wd has torsion bars
2. 2wd has coil springs, uses spindles, longer springs, or spacers (sometimes a combination of both)
3. It would be close to impossible to use a 4wd lift on a 2wd and a 2wd on a
4wd 97-03 F150.
4. The best 2wd F150 lift on the market for the 97-03 models is the Fabtech 7.5"
5. The best 4wd F150 lift on the market for the 97-03 models is the Fabtech 6"

These are the best complete lift kits IMHO.

For the 4x4 or 4x2? I have a regular cab 4x4. I think the lift will still work IMO you might want to call fabtech directly and seeing how hard it would be to get it to work!

Ill take a look for you!

They dont make the 6" kit for a Regular cab, however i still think it will fit. It probably will throw drive shaft angles all out of wack thats why they say it doesnt work. This can be fixed though! I would contact fabtech and ask them why the kit doesnt work on Regular cabs.

They do however make a kit for the 2wd models

If you can afford it and you have a 2wd get the fabtech 7.5. I have it and it is great. The only thing I want to change out it my shocks. The ones that come with it are good, but I don't have any money right now to buy better ones. Good luck with your lift!

i have a 4wd reg 97 with a 4.6 i really like the RCD lift, ive seen it installed and looks great and its fairly cheap compared to the others that are more commonly used like fabtech. Yea i know fabtech makes it for the extended and crew cab but not the reg cab. it will be a lil bit before i purchase my lift, but hopin to get that accomplished this summer.

The price for the 6" isnt much more than the 4". If you only want 4" then get a 3" body lift and crank your torsion bars then throw an aal in the rear.

I totally forgot about the RCD lift thats one of the best for the 97-03 F150's

1. Fabtech
2. RCD
3. BDS
4. Rancho
5. Tuff Country

Since fabtech doesnt fit a reg. cab then RCD is the next best option.

nah not really anymore, a lift is gonna cause wear and tear buti dont think the 6" will make anything wear faster than a 4".
