Used Fabtech off of another F150

Since General Discussions was the worst place to start a thread, ill start here...

The other day my dad comes home and told me his friend just took off a Fabtech 6in, rims, and tires off of an F150 and he will put all this on for 2500... I want to go see the lift and tires and stuff(ill take pics).. but i need to know if this is a good idea and what signs to look for if he beat the hell out of it.

I am a little discouraged because i have the 4.6 and it would be too much for 3.55 gears, and gears can get pricey from what i saw.. but im excited and really want to take this offer

Kind of depends on the tires and wheels but if the install is included in that $2500 then that's probably a pretty good deal. I'd probably get some new shocks if I were you because the paint doesn't hold up very well on those.

I had 35's on one of my old trucks with a 4.6 with 3.55s and it pulled them just fine. It was a 5 speed though, I dont know if that makes a difference. The only place I noticed HUGE power loss was pulling a really steap hill on the interstate, nothing doing there. I would have to shift down to third gear just to keep decent speed.

i dont want to question your intelligence but since nobody has mentioned it, are you sure this is the right kit for your truck? Make sure that and it will be a great deal!

haha yea, its off of an 04, or 05

the only thing im worried about is, say he did go off roading a few times with it on, do you think that would increase the chance of something breaking on my truck?

Since this is a friend of your Dad's, I assume you know the history of the truck. So you are better off with this lift than a used lift off EBay that you have no idea about how was used/abused.

i really wouldnt think that you would have too many problems.... now of course, i wouldnt want his ball joints, but since you will use your own, you will be fine there. the rest of the lift is really just a matter of crossarms and brackets.... unless one looks in bad shape (bent, rusted, pitted, cracked, etc) then i would think you should be just fine.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, I'd take it if I were you. Those BFG's look like they have plenty of tread life left in them from what I can see.

yea they looked alot better than what i thought they would have... the only thing is one tire has alot of wear on the inside but he said we could put that one in the back and it would be fine until i get new ones.

The kit looks in pretty good shape.

Tires have a decent amount of tread left ! Sounds to me like a pretty good deal. Is he going to do the install for you ? Or are you going to do it ? If he does it for you, maybe he could allow you in there, teach you a little bit about your truck, and show ya some of the parts.

Good luck either way bud !

Oh and I am running 6" basic Fabtech with 35x12.50 on 18" rims and my little 4.6 pushes them just fine ! Heck, I even tow with my truck !

yeah the 35" tires wont kill you. mpg will though. but mine would pull 8% grade at like 80mph pinned. that 35" 3.55gears and a 4.6
