8" lifts?

Alright let me start off by saying that im new to this site and i love it. Some of you guys on here have some really BA trucks. Anywho I currently own a 2005 F150 FX4 with a 3" body, 14" magnaflow, Airaid intake, and a custom SCT II tune. Ive got to go away to lovely Fort Knox this summer for 16 weeks and when i get back im going to lift my truck. Right now im trying to figure out what is the best approach so i dont end up wasting my money later down the road. Right now I am looking at a 8" rize lift, new blistien shocks, 4.88 precision gears, Nitto 38x15.5(really 16.5's)R18LT's, a set of greg weld fugitive 18x12 rims, a limited slip in the front and a Detroit locker n the rear, pacesetter longtube coated headers, pype electric cutout, and a 104oct retune (laugh now but that retune is worth around 68rwhp and 170rwtq over stock tuning). Now what I really want is 10" suspension and 39.5's but it is going to be about 3" over the legal ride height limit hear n virginia (the 8" and 38"s is about 1" under so im safe) which i dont really mind but i really dont feel like racking up to many tickets and im not quite sure how 38's would look with 8"s of lift. Anyone have any pic's of this tire/lift setup? The other problem is I will be using this offroad and there is no way to lengthen that 8" rize without compromising offroad capabilities. Oh let me also say that this truck is going to be used a lot for pulling stuck people out as im kinda becoming the go-to man for getting people out cause i dont ask for money and im always willing to help if i can. That means i cant pay all this money for a lift thats a pos off the road so one of my questions is how capable is the rize offroad? I heard its just alright but that the cst would be better is this true? Also from the pics i have seen of the 8" lifts it seems to clear 37's fine but it looks kinda small for 38's and i know its going to need a little bit of trimming to clear those tires anyways. So my final question would i be better to just risk the popo's ($110 improper equipment ticket) and do 11" with 39.5"s or just stick with my original plan of 8" and 38"s? Oh and one thing I forgot is that the local offroad shop (Pro trucks) is offering to sponsor my truck if i do the rize 8" becuase he needs a truck to show off that lift and as off the moment he lacks one. Hey thanks for any help i get and i sry about the LONG post.

P.S.- Does anybody know of a company that sells fenders because my tires will be sticking out pretty far and i value my paint and dont want it to be damaged to badly by flying rocks kicked up?

I'd stick with the 8 inch Rize and 38's. If you already have a body lift you should have plenty of room for 38's.

first off welcome to the site! ok now to the topic. I would go w/ the 8" on 38s it looks really good! only thing im wonderin about is you mentioned 18x12 rims? i havent seen them come in that size and they would be REALLY WIDE if i were you i would go w/ 18x9.5 or 18x10s if you can find em. A good fender company is bushwacker. check out their cut out fender flares. The CST to me looks a little shy of a true 8" lift so i would go w/ the Rize if i were you.

The body lift would have to go if i went with 38's to stay legal. Also i have to use 18x12's for 15.5" wide tires and greg weld is one of the only companies that sells them (between $290 and $390 depending on if there black or chrome)

First off the Rize is just as capable offroad as the CST. Both of them come with crap spacers on the top or bottom of the factory coilovers. I'd highly suggest you get some coilovers if you're already planning on beating it offroad. My suggestion is the King coilovers, they're $1550 for the pair. Secondly, those tires and wheels are NOT going to clear. But if you buy those coilovers you can crank them up until you get them to clear. Third, who told you a 104 octane tune is worth 68rwhp and 170 rwtq? I'd go with the Bushwhacker fender flares. They have a few different styles, personally I like the Pocket-Style Flares.

yeah i had been looking at doing the coilovers in addition to the 8" rize lift. THe local performance shop which has already done that tune on another 2004-2008 F150. With just a 93 tune I picked up about 24hp and 65tq.

Could you please scan your dyno sheets as well as the dyno sheets from the 104 octane truck and put them on here? I'd be interested in seeing them. And, good luck with all the stuff you plan on doing. It is going to look good when you are finished. I will keep my eyes open for pics.

lol i'll try to scan my dyno sheet but im not the best at that kinda stuff. I dont have the 104oct dyno sheet though as that was just what the shop told me it made. They said i should make about another 40hp and about 100tq over the 93 tuning i got now but we will just have to see. Right now im making 236rwhp and 335rwtq i think but i would have to double check on that one when i get home. Oh also i went and asked the shop about cranking the shocks like u mentioned and they said that i could do that but as soon as i hit a good sized bump its going to knock the upper control arms into the shock so i dont want that to happen.

Sounds like you need to find a new shop. Sorry but they don't know what they're talking about. I had that set-up. What do you think happens when people add spacers/leveling kit? The UCA won't hit the coilover. I never had any of that with the King coilovers cranked about 2 inches.

Also about these dyno numbers ... First you said you gained 24 rwhp and 65 rwtq from a 93 octane tune but you're numbers were only 236 rwhp. Something doesn't sound right. What kind of dyno is this on? I was making 240+ rwhp from a 93 octane tune on 37s with 20x10s. The hp number from that 104 octane tune sounds right but no way in hell are you going to get +170 rwtq from it.

Hey alright i made a mistake. Before the dyno tune (mods were magnaflow catback, airaid intake, and 35" tires with 17x10 rims) i was making 212rwhp and 263rwtq. After the dyno tune i was making 236.5rwhp and 343.5rwtq. I actually picked up 24hp and 80tq not 65tq. Im not quite sure what kinda dyno it was. What mods do u have done to ur truck?

I hate to tell you but whoever was operating that dyno was fabricating those results or their dyno was completely out of whack. There is no way you're going to pick up 24 rwhp and 80 rwtq from a tune. The hp number is fine but that amount of torque is just not going to happen.

I sold my truck but I had a 2006 F150 Supercrew 4x4 Lariat with a Rize 8", 20x10s on 37" Nitto Mud Grapplers. 4.88s, Mag-Hytec differential cover, Xcal2 with 93 octane dyno tune, S&B intake, true dual exhaust with Dynomax Race Bullet mufflers, King coilovers, custom rear driveshaft, Bilstein 5150s, Deaver add-a-leaf, full sound system with Eclipse AVN5435 headunit, Harley Headlights and Taillights, N-Fab steps, etc. Theres more that I'm missing but you get the idea. All in all there was about $16,000 in mods before I sold it ..

Yeah well ive got the dyno sheet right in front of me and I picked up exactly 80.5rwtq so thnk what you want. The shop is the best in the area and is known all over the area for building powerful rides so i think im going to stick with what the sheet says. Btw how much torque was your truck making if you can remember?
