Bilstein 5100 leveling install problem
Bilstein 5100 leveling install problem
I had front and rear Bilstein 5100's installed today and the fronts had the 2" adjustment ring on them where I am sure you all know that you can install then at factory hight or 2" higher at level...I see alot I read alot of your post and learned that I also needed an alighnment when I got this done ....so I did. It looks great .....rides great but know my frontend has I low speed roar to it \....kinda of sounds like the cv shafts but they aren't busted or any thing...I also had some BFG all terrian ko's put on a few weeks ago and it didn't make this noise before.....You can feel the roar in the sterring wheel.....anyone else had this problem with 2" leveling.....Thnak you for your time
Did you have the roar before you got the alignment done? Sounds like the castor/camber is off. Did you install the shocks yourself? When you torque the lower shock nut to 350 ft/lbs, the truck must be at ride height before you tighten it down. You can either lower the truck with the tire on, or use a floor jack to raise the lower control arm.
I had a local shop do it....I will ask them tomorrow if they lowered to ride hieght before tightning.....I have also tonight develeped the notorious grinding noise it my front right hub that there are hundreds of post on....I will try finding the leak in my vacuum line tomorrow and if I cant, I guess I will order a IWE solenoid......If I take the hub out what is the right way to take off and put back on concerning the vacum lines....for example should I remove vacuum line before I pull bearing and put back after assemled.....or does it matter.
I am sorry I didn't answer the other question...it was not roaring before the lift and alignment,,,,also just so I can learn something how would the shock being tightned before dropping to ride hight might cause this....Like I said just so I can learn somthing new....you guys forgot more about this stuff yesterday, then I have ever known about these trucks.....Thanks again for you time
If they torque'd it while the lower control arm is sitting too low, this will result in increased stress and improper castor/camber, which will put increase strain on your cv joints. The angle would of self adjusted by now, but that initial few miles may of ruined your CV joint. Ask them how tight they torque'd the lower shock bolt, and at what angle.
Thats great advice man....Thank you .....I bet if the cv axle is in a strain it could cause a bad seal on my 4x4 diaprhram gear that needs a vacuum to pull clear of the of the outer gear....maybe,,, maybe not... but I will call them and ask tomorow....thank you again

i have never tighted that lower shock bolt at ride height
